Primary Objective
The City of Bloomington is seeking an individual to provide prompt accurate and courteous information desk services for employees and the public in a manner that will project a positive image of the City.
This is a substitute position providing intermittent coverage when regular information assistant staff are unable to work. This position has no guaranteed hours per pay period.

Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Acts as the first point of contact for the public serving as a major source of community and City information
- Receives incoming telephone calls and emails and promptly refers them to the appropriate staff
- Assists the visiting public by directing them to the appropriate departments within Civic Plaza or other City buildings events and activities
- Notifies facilities maintenance of maintenance and cleaning issues that are reported
- Keeps the information desk clean and organized
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with the public and with City employees
- Customer service skills
- Organizational skills
- Computer and Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to lift small packages up to 30 pounds
- Knowledge of City and Center for the Arts operations and personnel
- Willing and able to work shifts agreed upon with management
- Interest in working intermittently to ensure effective staffing of the information desk
Minimum/Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months of work experience operating a telephone operating system or equivalent experience as a public-facing concierge at a business or other organization
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs specifically Word & Outlook
- One year of customer service experience
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Additional years of experience in operating a telephone operating system
- Additional years of experience as a receptionist concierge or similar position
- Additional years of experience in customer service
- Ability to speak Spanish Somali Sign Language or other non-English languages prevalent in the community
