Job title: Lab Phlebotomist Coordinator
Schedule: Full-time 80 hours per pay period
Weekend rotation: No Weekends
Holiday rotation: No Holidays
Position Summary:
The Phlebotomist Coordinator position serves as the administrative and clinical lead for all phlebotomists and serves as the lab secretary.
Position Responsibilities:
- Send out all pathology and cytology bone marrow biopsies and fine needle aspirates.
- Provide coverage for clinic labs when needed for vacations
- Review and input patients demographics for pathology. Review and print pathology reports and input histology charges as they come in.
- Order tests and prepare them to standards.
- Check lab orders to make sure orders are correct confirm physicians on the orders and make changes if any are needed.
- Perform venipuncture blood draws heel sticks finger pokes; verify patient information perform drug screens and breathalyzers.
- Coordinates training with new employees with staff and initial outreach clinic phlebotomy training.
- Review expectations with new staff and reviews with current staff
- Sets up meetings and discussions with staff on changes in regulation or procedures ensuring understanding and competency in subject.
- Creates quick guides and uses training tools for staff.
- Maintains and moderates lab sharepoint.
- Reviews and updates policies and procedures for specimen processing and collection
- Observed competencies on staff procedures looks for ways to improve workflow.
- Monitors all phlebotomy supplies and orders supplies when needed.
- BAT analyzer needs to be sent in for calibrations and repairs as well as ordering supplies for calibrations
- Calls employer companies for COC and calls the testing facilities for drug screen cups.
- Evaluates areas of greater need on a day-to day basis and coordinators schedule according to need
- Provides coaching and corrective feedback to staff to address and improve process errors.
- EScreen liaison- Watches billing orders supplies calls eScreen service when there are issues setting up new employees in the program
- Drug Screen Coordinator- Sets up local employers with new drug screen accounts contacts employers for updated contact information and updated contracts of services.
- Receives specialized training for DOT drug screen collection and Breathalyzer testing - trains new hires and conducts recertification for all phlebotomy employees at the hospital and at the clinics.
- Maintains BAT and DOT certification.
- Maintains BAT records
- Maintains drug Screen Affidavits tracking log.
- Assist phlebotomists as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Position Requirements:
- HS Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year of related lab experience preferred.
- BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
- Valid and current drivers license required.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Intermediate proficiency with computers is required.
- Comprehensive phlebotomy skills.
- Knowledge of lab protocols.
- Strong quantitative and analytical competency.
- Self-starter with compassion and excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
- DOT Trained - Specialized knowledge in DOT regulations in each federal organization for drug screens and BAT services.
