The Shop Technician I is responsible for the regular repair adjustment cleaning or preparation of batteries for shipment. They regularly utilize tools and operate machinery and may transport materials to and from offsite locations.
Responsibilities:
- Practices safety and good housekeeping in all circumstances.
- Loads and unloads truck.
- Receives and checks in returned materials.
- Prepares new product for shipment.
- Discharges any remaining battery power prior to servicing.
- Washes (power wash) cleans and neutralizes returned batteries.
- Removes and disassembles cells and inspects all parts.
- Replaces defective parts reassembles battery and fuses lead parts with gas torch.
- Fills cells with acid solution and determines specific gravity of solution.
- Adds water as needed to the battery.
- Attaches charger leads to battery posts or connector and starts charger.
- Reads oncharge voltage meters and adjusts charge parameters to control time and flow of current through battery.
- Provides quality control on work performed.
- As business needs necessitate travels offsite (driving company vehicle) to evaluate diagnose and repair defective equipment and/or transport materials.
- Safely operates company vehicles.
- Operates a forklift.
- Uses correct techniques for installing or removing batteries from equipment.
- Follows all company policies and procedures as listed which are not limited to warranty safety environmental OSHA DOT Hazmat and ISO9000.
- All other duties as required.
Education/ Training:
- High School graduate or equivalent required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel and Outlook) and the internet.
- Knowledge of basic tools and equipment.
- Forklift Certified or willing to train.
- Receives 2 weeks of training.
- Clean and current Drivers license (MVR check) in the applying State.
- Working experience with soldering and welding equipment.
$18-$20/hr
