Overview
The Project Engineering Manager will join the Engineering Management practice within the Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The Project Engineering Manager will play a lead role in the delivery of Engineering Services on large and complex projects (generally Class 3 4 & 5 projects ranging from $1M to > $20M) while also supporting the growth of the Engineering Management practice.
Reporting to the Director of Operations of the Engineering Management practice the Project Engineering Manager will be assigned to projects to contribute to the development of the project engineering teams strategy and overseeing/ensuring the successful execution of the engineering design of large multi-disciplinary projects from inception to addition you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Project Delivery Technical TPO external stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet and exceed client expectations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills exceptional technical expertise multi-disciplinary engineering experience and a proven track record of managing engineering of large-scale projects.
Your role
- Engineering Planning and Execution:
- Collaborate with Win Work (Business Development) and Market Lead to define proposal timelines deliverables and efforts ensuring alignment with client requirements and overall business objectives.
- Collaborate with Project Delivery (Project Management and Project administrative services) team to define project goals timelines and deliverables ensuring alignment with client requirements and overall business objectives during the planning and execution phases.
- Oversee the engineering project lifecycle including design development testing and implementation while managing technical risk and resources effectively.
- Oversee the Project Design Execution Plan and the inter-disciplinary technical coordination.
- Ensure safety is prioritized throughout technical delivery
- Ensure internal and external effort estimates schedule deliverables and obligations associated with the scope of work are fully understood identified adhered to and monitored.
- Prepare and submit project monthly reporting to the Engineering Management Director responsible for a Market or Portfolio Leads.
- Technical Expertise and Quality Assurance:
- Provide technical guidance and expertise to the engineering team ensuring the use of industry best practices and standards and promoting innovative and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes methodologies and tools driving efficiency and productivity.
- Conduct regular reviews and quality assessments of engineering deliverables ensuring compliance with project requirements specifications and quality standards in addition to promoting a Value Engineering culture throughout the project life cycle. Understand in-scope deliverables and manage change.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders including clients architects vendors contractors and regulatory authorities to ensure project success.
- Engage in effective communication providing regular engineering updates addressing concerns and managing expectations to foster strong client relationships.
- Actively participate in meetings presentations and technical discussions representing the engineering team and providing expert insights and recommendations.
About you
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with 10 years of experience in transportation projects within rail & transit / light rail transit infrastructure design. Has at least 5 years in engineering management leading complex multi-disciplinary teams across planning design and delivery phases.
- A strong understanding of regulatory frameworks across provinces as a registered professional engineer in Canada and eligible to obtain relevant professional designation in multiple jurisdictions across Canada.
- Has a familiarity with civil and systems engineering with the ability to coordinate across disciplines and stakeholders.
- Experience overseeing design development of LRT or other rail transit systems ensuring compliance with transit standards managing consultant teams and supporting integration with urban environments and existing infrastructure.
- Experience with working in highly regulated environments including municipal provincial and federal authorities. Understands the importance of safety compliance and stakeholder coordination in public infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical expertise and exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results with a deep understanding of engineering principles methodologies and best practices.
- Experience working under different contract models including Alliance contracts would be an asset.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences (both French and English are an asset).

*Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $ 125 000 à 171 900 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills experience and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
