Overview

Reporting to the Senior Category Manager the Category Manager is responsible for managing a team of Category Buyers in support of Nuclear Projects & Services. They will lead a team of experienced Category Buyers in various areas of nuclear supply chain such as Large Equipment Pumps & Valves Electrical Instrumentation and Control etc. The Category Manager is responsible for >$500MM/ per year worth of procurement over multi-year projects.

Your role

  • Category Strategy Development:
    • Develop and implement category strategies aligned with project goals and procurement best practices.
    • Conduct market research and spend analysis to identify opportunities for cost reduction and value creation.
    • Carry out category mapping exercises to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management:
    • Lead end-to-end sourcing processes including RFP supplier evaluation and selection.
    • Negotiate contracts and commercial terms with suppliers to ensure favourable outcomes.
    • Manage supplier performance through KPIs scorecards and regular business reviews.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure alignment with category strategies.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to business units on procurement-related matters.
  • Risk Management & Compliance:
    • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks within assigned categories.
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies procedures and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the category.
    • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to inform strategy.
  • Financial Accountabilities:
    • Manage category savings budget.
    • Ensure full compliance to agreements.
    • Deliver individual savings plans and specific savings targets as agreed.
    • Identify ways to reduce costs and improve service.
  • Supervisory responsibilities (if any):
    • Accountable to lead the Category Buying team in a specific category of spend.
  • Other aspects (if applicable):
    • Hybrid working environment.
    • Travel will be required.

About you

  • Bachelors degree in Business Supply Chain Management or related field (MBA or professional certification such as SCMP is an asset).
  • 7-10 years of experience in category management in a complex or matrixed organization.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience with managing similar category markets to those listed above.
  • Experience in equivalent industries to the nuclear sector that operate to a high level of quality assurance standards i.e. defense aerospace oil & gas etc.
  • Strategic Thinking.
  • Strong negotiation analytical and supply chain management skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement systems (e.g. SAP Ariba Oracle other) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical skills and high competency in supplier selection and evaluation.
  • High competency in value engineering and performance improvement.
  • Proficiency in leading a team of Category Buyers.
