The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 worship leader with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Position Title: Contemporary Praise and Worship Leader
2. Performance Location: Altus Air Force Base (AFB) Chapel Bldg 301 or alternate location determined by the Designated Chaplain.
3. Scope of Responsibilities. The Contemporary Praise and Worship Leader (Worship leader) will in coordination with the Designated Chaplain have overall responsibility for leading a blended contemporary style of music for the Contemporary Worship Service.
4. Core Working Hours: The Designated Chaplain and Worship leader will determine rehearsal times and core working hours will not exceed 120 weekly rehearsals and worship services for all 52 weeks of contractual year. Worship services will be held on Sundays from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM. (Worship leader will be notified at least seven (7) in advance of exceptions to dates and times of rehearsals and worship services.)
5. Education and Experience. The Worship leader must:
5.1. Be at least 21 years of age.
5.2. Possess a minimum of five (3) years experience within the last eight (8) as a Praise and Worship Leader in a contemporary-style worship service setting leading a vibrant band Praise Team and congregation in songs vocally and instrumentally (while playing a guitar or keyboard).
5.3. Have training in music with the ability to read and understand music (to include vocal chords notes and keys ) and/or to effectively play by ear and have knowledge of vocal harmony and able to provide accompaniment for Praise Team members and solo vocalists as needed.
5.4. Be positive self-directed motivated and able to interface well within the interfaith Air Force chapel environment with chaplains and volunteers from various religious backgrounds. Possess an ability to maintain healthy functional interpersonal relationships with staff and congregants and also maintain professional standards of conduct and public decorum including but not limited to dress and grooming.
5.5. Display active membership/attendance at a church/chapel with a letter of endorsement from their current pastor/chaplain.
5.6. Provide the following: (a) a video segments vocally leading a minimum of a three (3) song set from a high (upbeat) medium to slow-tempo songs with smooth transitions between songs; and
(b) a complete resume with academic and at least three (3) work related references including phone numbers and points of contact. Previous work performance and/or letters of recommendation may also serve to supplement a resume as factors in the applicant selection process.
5.7. Be able to operate computer (especially familiarity with PowerPoint and Pro Presenter) and audio-visual equipment for the Contemporary Worship Service.
6. General Responsibilities. The Worship leader will:
6.1. Recruit assemble and maintain a Praise Team and maintain volunteer hours. All volunteers must be approved by the Designated Chaplain before they can practice or perform.
6.2. Conduct weekly rehearsals with a Band and Praise Team and lead congregational and Praise Team in worship songs for the Contemporary Worship Service.
6.3. Coordinate with the Designated Chaplain for approval of song selections and special music for the Contemporary Worship Service
6.4. Prepare any needed music slides for projection of song lyrics during each worship service and provide them no later than 72 hours prior to the worship service.
6.5. Maintain a repertoire of current and prevalent of contemporary-style songs ensuring 75% are within 10 years of calendar year.
6.6. Be knowledgeable in areas of Air Force Instructions (AFIs) relevant to chapel functions and/or willing to gain that knowledge to include financial procedures necessary for compliance with Air Force directives dealing with security and conflict of interest issues. Knowledge of scheduling policies is also needed to prevent conflicts with other users of chapel facility and resources.
6.7. Be able to successfully obtain a favorable background check if required. Failure to accomplish a favorable background check IAW DoDI 1402.5 Criminal History Background Checks will result in an immediate termination of the contract in accordance with FAR 52.212-4. The Worship leader will upon request complete (IRC) AF Form 2583 items 1-7 only Volunteer Questionnaire Acknowledgement of Rights/Consent Release Records and Statement of Understanding.
Additionally an SF 85c Questionnaire for Non-Sensitive Positions will be accomplished. These background checks will be accomplished at the expense of the chapel. Worship leader will not be allowed to work with children under the age of 18 alone until background check is complete.
6.8. Be able to successfully obtain a favorable background.
6.9. Be accountable for security and orderliness of all facilities and equipment utilized in conjunction with their programs. At completion of each service and rehearsal ensures stage is returned to a neutral status and left in a neat and orderly fashion as directed by the Chapel Staff. Secures the building following rehearsals and services as required.
7. Specific Responsibilities. The Worship leader will:
7.1. Lead a Band and Praise Team in support of the Contemporary Worship Service. All music
performance/rehearsal schedules will be as follows:
7.1.1. Conduct one (1) worship service per week or as requested by the Designated Chaplain;
7.1.2. Conduct one (1) rehearsal per weekday in support of the Contemporary Praise and Worship Leader as requested by the Designated Chaplain; and
7.1.3. Conduct Special Worship Service or rehearsal(s) of up to 16 per year as requested by the Designated Chaplain.
7.2. Arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to any rehearsal or worship service to insure that proper preparations of the facility sound system setup (including microphones music stands etc) music and any necessary coordination with the Designated Chaplain has been made. The Worship leader will also make sure all facilities and equipment are returned to their original position/condition per the direction of the Chapel Staff and relevant procedures.
7.3. Attend periodic Protestant Community Advisory Council (PAC) meetings as scheduled.
