Job Summary

The Literacy Curriculum Coordinator plays a key role in driving continuous improvement in grades K8 through the development of high-quality curriculum effective instructional practices and aligned professional learning. The Coordinator partners with campus and district leaders to set instructional priorities ensure strong curriculum implementation and monitor student progress to advance student achievement.Essential FunctionsCurriculum Leadership & Content Expertise
  • Uses literacy expertise along with culturally responsive teaching principles to guide curriculum selection adaptation and implementation.
  • Develops revises or adapts curriculum to meet student and teacher needs.
  • Collaborates with other instructional leaders to promote curricular coherence across subject areas.
Instructional Support & Coaching
  • Observes instruction (in collaboration with campus leaders) to identify teacher and student learning needs.
  • Coaches teachers and supports campus leaders in giving high-quality instructional feedback.
  • Provides targeted professional learning aligned to curriculum expectations instructional best practices and district priorities.
  • Ensures teachers and leaders regularly engage in effective planning and data-driven decision-making.
Data Assessment and Continuous Improvement
  • Identifies and develops the suite of assessment tools needed to monitor student learning.
  • Supports teachers and leaders in administering interpreting and acting on student learning data.
  • Analyzes student achievement and classroom observation data to identify trends strengths and areas for growth.
  • Guides teams in developing actionable plans to close achievement gaps and strengthen instructional practice.
  • Contributes to intervention and acceleration planning including multi-tiered systems of support and summer learning opportunities.
Campus & District Leadership Support
  • Partners with leadership teams to identify priorities within content-area instruction and create action plans across campuses.
  • Supports campus-based instructional leadership teams in implementing curriculum assessments and feedback cycles.
  • Works closely with Literacy Specialists to ensure effective intervention strategies and multi-tiered systems of support structures are in place.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Supports districtwide professional development initiatives including the New Teacher Institute and year-round PD sessions.
  • Support campus leadership team within the content area.
  • Serves as a member of the district academic leadership team.
  • Completes other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of effective classroom teaching experience with a demonstrated record of improving student achievement.
  • Prior teacher-leadership coaching or instructional leadership experience.
  • Experience in curriculum development implementation and refinement.
  • Deep knowledge of research-based literacy practices in grades K8 including reading writing and language development.
  • Strong understanding of assessment for learning and effective progress-monitoring practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise and commitment to the Science of Reading.
  • Demonstrated expertise and commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive instructional practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret student learning data to inform instruction and action planning.
  • Ability to guide teachers and teams in using data to drive decision-making and close achievement gaps.
  • Demonstrated ability to give and receive constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
