Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA)is a division of Revenue that administers many programs including excise tax forest tax fish tax cigarette and other tobacco products taxes local sales tax tax incentives reseller permits and distribution of state and local taxes. Additionally the division is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act and returning unclaimed property (UCP) to the rightful owners. Telework: The duty station is in Tumwater Washington and the successful candidate will need to travel to the office a minimum of one day a month for critical job duties. Details of teleworking considerations will be addressed during the interview process. Duties
This ETE4 position will perform expert-level support of the ARESA teams duties and tax programs.
Some of the duties of the ARESA ETE4 will include:
- Act as a resource for the division on rules laws and tax policy as it applies to the tax programs assigned to the ARESA team.
- Complete first level theory and math review of desk examinations and apportionment and incentive audits.
- Approve lower-level apportionment audit cases and requests to cancel audits.
- Work Core ATLAS work items to maintain ability to review accounts and make account adjustments.
- Perform and resolve complete full scope financial examinations of tax records returns audit reports or assessments to evaluate business activities and accounting records to determine if taxpayers are following applicable tax laws and have correctly reported their tax liability.
- Oversee procedures and training curriculum for the ARESA Unit.
- Provide system Specialist support.
- Serve as an Interdivisional Liaison in the management of tax assessment policies and procedures and standard paragraph language.
- Provide back-up in some supervisory functions such as assignment of work ATLAS system approvals and meeting facilitation.

Proficient using technologies such as Microsoft Word Excel and the Internet and/or other Database and word processing programs.
Decision making and applying independent judgment:
Understanding of Washington Excise Tax Laws and Rules:
Keeping organized to ensure deadlines are not missed messages are responded to and projects are completed.
Effectively organize multiple assignments sometimes of a complex nature or involving competing priorities to produce work products that are accurate thorough and timely.
Utilizes verbal communication skills in presentations and training.
Development and Continual Learning.
Actively works to continuously improve job effectiveness and efficiency; accepts personal responsibility to develop talents and knowledge.
Demonstration of consistently using the following competencies at an advanced level:
Preference may be granted to those who possess:One year as an Excise Tax Examiner 3 OR
Two years of Department of Revenue experience at the senior or lead level in accounting auditing compliance or tax administration provided 12 semester (18 quarter) hours of accounting coursework has been completed OR
Three years of non-Department of Revenue experience at the senior or lead level in accounting compliance auditing or tax administration provided 12 semester (18 quarter) hours of accounting coursework has been completed.
