Job Summary
Your future responsibilities
As a member of SALs Embedded Systems research team you will push the boundaries of resilient and trustworthy AI in applied research projects collaborating with industrial and scientific partners as well as colleagues across SAL units.

In this role you will:
- Support applied research and development in areas such as advanced anomaly detection out-of-control action planning predictive maintenance algorithms and automata learning.
- Contribute to the development of scalable distributed AI and learning methodsincluding federated learning federated distillation and reinforcement learningand apply these techniques across domains such as manufacturing electronics and energy with a strong focus on safety reliability and trustworthy AI practices.
- Conduct research understand application contexts identify suitable methods to solve challenges and implement solutions with guidance from senior colleagues
- Present your results to colleagues and at conferences publish research papers and prepare reports reviews and summaries.
- Continuously develop your technical expertise and become a recognized expert in the field with SAL providing support through training and development opportunities.
Your profile
- Masters degree in Computer Science Robotics Electrical Engineering Applied Mathematics Data Science Physics or a related field.
- Proven knowledge and experience in machine learning including classical methods such as SVMs and decision trees as well as deep learning methods such as LSTMs CNNs and transformers.
- Specific experience in LLMs and generative AI embedded AI and TinyML reinforcement learning formal methods and automata learning is advantageous.
- Good programming skills in Python.
- Experience with code management tools such as Git (GitLab).
- Familiarity with frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Experience of applying statistical techniques to analyse data detect outliers and select and sample datasets.
- Good communication presentation and academic writing skills.
- Proficiency in English is essential and proficiency in German would be advantageous.
