The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Wofford College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology to begin in August 2026.We seek an engaging teacher-scholar withexpertisein medicalsociology whoisexcited toworkwith undergraduate students in a liberal arts setting andcontributeto a dynamic collaborative campus community.
Key Responsibilities
The successfulcandidate willteachIntroduction toSociologyupper-leveltheoryand research methods courses andwilldevelop classes in their own areas of expertise that complement both the department and the general education curriculum.Applicants should have an active research agenda in medical sociology health and illnessthe social organization of health care delivery differential access to medical resources or related topics.Tenure expectations require faculty todemonstrateexcellence inteachingadvising scholarship and servicein accordance withCollegeand Department-specific guidelines. The course load is 3-1-3 where the 1 refers to the JanuaryInterimcourse.A PhD in sociology is required by appointment. Letters of recommendation will be solicited during the interview stage.
Additionalpreferred qualifications include:
Experience teaching sociology at the college level.
Innovativeand creative pedagogyandcommitmenttoinclusiveand effectiveteaching.
An intersectionalanalysis in research and teaching.
Interest in contributing to interdisciplinary programs such as Medicine and the Liberal Arts Gender Studies or African and African American Studies among others.
