Description
The Area Coordinator under the supervision of the Director of Residence Life is responsible for the direction and coordination of the residence program within her/his living areas. With the student leaders as support staff the Area Coordinator is the facilitator in the planning and implementation of a meaningful residence life experience for students and Resident Assistants. The Area Coordinator is primarily an educator with a developmental philosophy committed to helping residential students bridge their academic and interpersonal worlds. Included as responsibilities are: administrative duties as it applies to the position general counseling and guidance living area programming and Resident Assistant staff selection supervision training and development. The Area Coordinator is also responsible for supervising one graduate assistant in their area as part of their area staff. This is an onsite live-on position that requires the employee to live on campus. The Joy Hall AC position will oversee 3 primarily male traditional residence halls. The Hood Hall AC position will oversee 1-2 primarily female traditional residence halls 1 primarily male traditional residence hall and 1 coed residence pod-style hall. The University Hall AC position will live in and oversee Greenvilles newest coed suite-style residence hall.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentor and supervise area staff
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the living area
Develops and implements a living-learning program to meet the individual needs of
living area residents
Assists Director of Residence Life in the ongoing selection supervision training and evaluation for RAs and GAs
Serves as a responsible role model who provides guidance and counseling for living area residents and actively seeks to live a life of Christian service and leadership
Participates in and assists with annual Walkabout leadership adventure programs
Confronts students exhibiting behaviors that are inconsistent with stated University student standards of conduct
Maintains a constant sense of preparedness among students in the event of catastrophic emergency such as fire flood tornado and earthquake
Assists Director of Residence Life and Housing Coordinator with management of paperwork programs and duties such as:
Occupancy reports
Semesterly check-ins pertaining to student academic performance
Health and safety inspections
Retention report requests
All duties associated with delivering quality programming to the residential community
Utilize software such as Slate and Microsoft to manage your area
Duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life
Campus Housing Note
Members of the Student Development Life Staff living in residence must participate in the Residence Life On-Call Schedule.
Academic Coach
Provide proactive outreach and academic coaching for academically at-risk students to help them address their individual learning needs to increase achievement and persistence.
Work with students in collaboration with faculty and staff to promote the planning of intentional academic pathways.
Monitor individual student progress and work collaboratively with other Greenville University student support and student alert processes.
Coordinate and offer programs tied to academic success and persistence including a summer bridge program for conditionally admitted first-year students and specific resources for academically at-risk students.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to intentionally connect academic work and skill development to the exploration of career pathways.
Requirements
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Masters Degree in Student Affairs or related field preferred
Experience in Student Development or desire to pursue a degree in a related field.
Agreement with the purpose of Greenville University and demonstration of a mature Christian faith.
Leadership initiative strong written and verbal communication skills and administrative ability.
Student development and counseling theories as well as skills suitable for housing residence life; discipline and supervisory decisions.
Knowledge of procedures and theory in the field of housing and residence life; ability to assimilate and disseminate such knowledge.
Ability to work as a vital member of the Residence Life Senior Staff and Student Life team.
A vision and commitment to an intentionally developmental residence life program within a Christian liberal arts college framework.
