The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City clean safe and healthy by collecting recycling and disposing of waste cleaning streets attacking the scourge of illegal dumping and clearing snow and ice. The Department operates 59 district garages and manages a fleet of more than 2000 rear-loading collection trucks 450 mechanical brooms 705 salt spreaders and several dozen bike lane operations machines. Currently the Department is aggressively cleaning more parts of the city than ever before including over 1000 long-ignored areas spread across every neighborhood. With the highest wintertime uniformed headcount in 20 years DSNY is more equipped than ever to remove snow and ice from the approximately 19000 lane miles of City streets.
Reporting directly to the Director of Export Engineering the Deputy Director of Maintenance and Repair (M&R) will lead the M&R team to work with the Facility Development team on facility upgrade and maintenance of DSNYs solid waste management facilities. The Deputy Director of M&R will be responsible for timely equipment troubleshooting and issue resolution preventing operational interruptions as well as contract administration. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Manage M&R contracts of DSNY solid waste management facilities.
-Manage routine maintenance inspections and field investigation to prevent major failures.
-Coordinate and facilitate team efforts for troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
-Coordinate with specialists for complex or specialized M&R tasks.
-Oversee contract procurement process including scope of services preparation Request for Proposal development budget schedule M/WBE compliance extension of time of contracts and other contract management services.
-Manage a team of staff and consultants/contractors to execute M&R tasks.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering engineering technology architecture landscape architecture architectural technology construction construction management construction technology sustainable design urban planning urban studies city planning transportation planning business administration or public administration and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning administering or expediting of engineering design and/or construction or coordinating a very large engineering project two years of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity; or
2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of experience as described in 1 above; two years of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. One year of experience credit will be given for: (a) each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering engineering technology architecture landscape architecture architectural technology construction construction management construction technology sustainable design urban planning urban studies city planning transportation planning business administration or public administration; (b) An accredited Masters degree in one of the disciplines described in 1 above; (c) a Juris Doctor degree or (d) a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer Registered Architect or Landscape Architect. However all candidates must have the two years of the administrative managerial executive or supervisory experience as described in 1 above.
