Overview

Marathon Petroleum Corporations North Dakota Refining Division is seeking ahighly motivated team-orientated Electrical & Instrument Reliability Engineerto join the Reliability group within the Maintenance Department. This role will provide critical support to both theMandan Refineryand theDickinson Renewable Diesel Facility ensuring compliance with process and industry standards contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our facilities.

The goals of the position include maintenance support troubleshooting existing issues budgeting for planned equipment replacements implementingnew solutionsand creating new reliability programs targeting longer run-times higher MTBF and safer operations. The role involves extensive collaboration with external contractors performing work both onsite and offsite.

This position will be based in Mandan ND and reports to the Reliability Manager.

KeyResponsibilities

Drives Long Term Reliability

  • Maintain complianceofinstrument equipment with the Mechanical Integrity program including identification of covered equipment developing and scheduling of ITPM plans budgeting analysis ofresultsand developing recommendations for repair.
  • Utilize reliability tools and CMMS software such as SAP GE APM failure evaluations ParetoAnalysisand cost analysis to improve reliability of rotating equipment systems.
  • Support the Instrumentation reliability improvement program. Works directly with vendors reviews upgrade recommendations and championsupgradesthrough theappropriate budgetingprocess.
  • Develop Project Request Forms (PRFs) for equipment upgrades including financial justification (life cycle cost analysis) andassistin Decision Support Package (DSP) development.
  • Develops andmaintainssettings and specifications specific to power distribution controls/logic and/or Safety Instrumented System (SIS) etc.

Maintenance and Area Team Support

  • Analyze equipment failure and condition monitoring data toidentifyopportunities for improvement in equipment reliability availability and cost of operation.
  • Support facility turnarounds including scope development planning reviews materialselectionand execution of work scopes.
  • Develop and oversee shop maintenance/repairs completed internally and at vendors/outside repair facilities.
  • Provide technicalexpertiseand training for maintenance crafts and operators to support reliability programs
  • Provide technical assistance/troubleshootingassistancein resolving Instrument operations and maintenance problems; contact internal and external experts asrequired.

Health Safety Environmental and Mechanical Integrity Stewardship

  • Participate in safety walks and field audits on a regular basis.
  • Serve as a technical resource to the Process Safety Department during HAZOP reviews.
  • Perform as the site champion for Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Lead and/or support multi-disciplinary incident investigations todetermineroot cause andidentifycorrective actions.
  • Ensure technical documentation ismaintainedper PSI (Process Safety Information) Policies including Loop drawings Instrument datasheets wiring diagrams and datasheets.
  • Champion Mechanical Integrity program and the Major Equipment Deficiency process with key stakeholders.
  • Generate and manage MOCs (Management of Change) per jurisdictional MPC corporate and site-standards
  • Develop and review turnaround work lists and scopes for critical equipment.
  • Provide leadership and decision-making skills during turnarounds and unplanned equipment outagesregardingrepair solutions.
  • Provide technicalexpertiseand support to capital project development
  • Conduct periodic reviews of equipment Work History toidentifycontinuous improvement opportunities

Education Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelors degree inElectrical must be achieved bystartdate.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Travel Requirement is 10% or less.
  • The work schedule for this position is a Monday Thursday 4/10 schedule. The position is expected to support a rotating on-call calendar approx. 4-6 weeksper year and Outages/Turnaround (TAR) once a year. Periodic overtime work including weekends may berequired.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of instrumentation-related experiencein the refiningpetrochemicalor other heavy industry.
  • Experience with managing Preventative and Predictive Maintenance programs (for SIS testing and Mechanical Integrity) for instrumentation.
  • Experience with process measurement and control instrument equipment safety instrumented system (SIS) design electrical area classification management of change (MOC) processes and industry standards (NFPA ISA IEEE NEMA API etc.).
  • Experience in the use of Instrument management software such Intergraph SI (Smart Instrumentation).
  • Familiarity with vendor related software for troubleshooting radar level transmitters flow transmitters vibration monitoring systems etc.

Required Skills:

  • Strong organizing planning critical thinking and communication (verbal and written) skills. With the ability to manage competing priorities in dynamic refining environment.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office programs including Outlook Excel Word TEAMs PowerPoint and OneNote.
  • Mustbe able to physicallyperform the essential job functions of an engineer including but not limited to wearing all required PPE working at elevated heights confined space entry fall protection and respirator usage.
  • Must be able to work in an effective team environment and interface daily with multiple cross-functional teams.

**This position is part of an Engineering Technical Ladder with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications. **
