Job Summary

BBIS has an opening for a Whole School Leader of Athletics and Activities (f/m/d).

Position of Responsibility: Whole School Leader of Athletics and Activities (AD)
Contract: limited teacher contract (two years intially)
Full-Time: 30 teaching hours per week / 40 working hours per week /
Renumeration: Teacher salary according to classification and stipend

The Leader of Athletic and Activities (AD) provides leadership and strategic oversight for all athletics and activities at BBIS. The AD ensures that programs are accessible equitable developmentally appropriate and reflective of our international and intercultural identity. Working in partnership with coaches activity leaders faculty families outside providers and students the AD champions a culture where participation is celebrated diversity is valued and excellence is pursued in a supportive and positive environment.
The AD collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that offerings align with the schools mission strategic direction and commitment to student well-being. Given the nature of the role responsibilities regularly extend beyond the 8-3pm school day and into weekends.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience: 2 years in this role or a similar one
  • A Masters Degree preferred with specialisation in related fields
  • At least five years of relevant athletics and co-curricular experiences
  • Teaching credential for sport

Athletics Program Coordination
  • Organize promote coordinate and supervise competitive and non-competitive athletic opportunities within Germany and internationally.
  • Represent BBIS at ESC GISST and other conference meetings maintaining constructive and professional partnerships.
  • Strengthen and broaden links with local community clubs expanding inclusive participation opportunities in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.
  • Collaborate with the Head of PE and PE team to ensure alignment between the athletics program and the PE curriculum.
  • Oversee the procurement distribution and maintenance of athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Promote an inclusive values-driven philosophy of sport that balances broad participation fair play and pathways for competitive excellence.
  • Develop review and maintain an athletics handbook reflecting BBIS values expectations and equity-focused guidelines.
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations regarding attendance behavior sportsmanship and respect.
  • Lead and support the Student Athletic Council to elevate student voice and leadership in shaping program culture.
    Recruit support mentor and evaluate coaches and volunteers ensuring inclusive coaching practices and safeguarding standards.
  • Manage athletics budgets including travel planning and financial oversight.
  • Enhance visibility and celebration of sports achievements through the school website publications and events.
  • Develop a school-wide athletics progression that supports younger students and strengthens long-term participation pathways.
  • Supporting the development of the athletics portion of the school web-site to make it more visible and appealing to prospective families.
  • Liaising with the PTA community connector and other relevant members of the school operations team in the development of a parent booster club.
  • develop and promote a philosophy for competitive sport at BBIS that allows for both mass participation and the development and training of competitive teams.


After School Activities Coordination
Plan promote and oversee diverse and inclusive activities beyond the regular school day.
  • Ensure that activities reflect student interests promote well-being and support equitable access for all learners.
  • Coordinate termly activity schedules supervising promotion sign-up processes and communication with parents and students.
  • Recruit and support activity leadersinternal and externalensuring quality and safeguarding compliance.
  • Work with relevant IB Programme Coordinators to strengthen alignment between activities service learning and learning outcomes including logistical arrangements such as transportation and attendance systems.
  • Manage budgets and facility use to ensure safe efficient and equitable program delivery.
  • Promote positive respectful interactions and community-building within all co-curricular spaces.
