Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Billing Specialist position is to ensure accurate and timely processing of all patient and insurance billing follow-up and correspondence for University Hospital.

Responsibilities

What Youll Do

  • Performs pre-billing preparations as required for electronic and manual claims submission.

  • Reviews pre-bill edit/error reports and makes necessary corrections; Resubmits claims.
  • Obtains and/or corrects any missing data elements required for billing purposes.
  • Mails all hard copy claims to the appropriate insurance carrier with attachments if required.
  • Maintains and prepares daily billing and follow-up logs and statistical reports.
  • Contacts insurance companies to follow-up on outstanding claims submitted in accordance with daily workload assignments as
    displayed on the Receivables Workstation and/or as targeted by Patient Accounts Management.
  • Handles and processes all communications (oral and written) received from insurance companies patients and other third
    parties in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

What Youll Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED Certification required
  • Three (3) years of progressively more responsible clerical experience one (1) year of which must have been in a physicians office hospital billing office or insurance company which involved billing and collection or medical insurance activities.
  • Prior experience functioning in a computerized environment is
    required.

Compensation

The expected hourly range for this position is TC/1925: $27.95 - $28.45- $29.30per hour in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
