Job Summary:
The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Survey Technician.
This position is responsible for providing survey-related support to the field survey crew and for performing specialized and complex professional survey engineering work for the Districts survey department.
Essential Functions & Duties:
Coordinate the survey crew in the field layout of difficult construction projects including replacing lost survey monuments setting property corners on District land from legal descriptions and title information and performing other aspects of survey work.
Coordinate work assignments with the project schedule and ensure timely completion of projects.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of crew activities and survey data.
Review blueprints legal deeds and perform deed research as required for each project.
Perform the reduction of field data and preparation of electronic base maps using established CAD standards.
Create/ finish Auto CAD drawings exhibits legal descriptions and related survey documents for project managers.
Assemble drawings exhibits and related survey documents for the field crew.
Ensure survey computations comply with applicable standards.
Ensure surveying instruments and equipment such as prisms theodolites and electronic distance-measuring equipment are properly maintained and in operational condition.
Ensure work is performed according to instruction and conforms to sound survey engineering principles.
Facilitate work with project coordinators/contractors in providing survey data for construction projects.
Determine existing and proposed right-of-way; ensure markings and property corners are accurately set.
Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Education and Experience:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Four (4) years of experience in survey work or a similar field including field survey engineering methods and techniques/ principles of civil engineering.
Significant experience using complex optical/ electronic instruments and various instruments used in survey engineering specifically Leica GPS and total stations.
Significant experience in survey techniques used in making cross-section profile location topographic and construction layout surveys.
Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D GIS Carlson SurvCE Carlson Explorer Data Collector Leica Total Station and Leica 2300GPS.
Experience reading and understanding construction plans details and specifications.
Licensure:
Valid Class C Texas Drivers License
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
Can effectively communicate with coworkers vendors the public industry and/or governmental representatives.
Ability to prepare accurate sketches of conditions found in the field.
Excellent understanding of construction standards practices and techniques.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Good diagnostic and analytical skills.

Surveyor in Training (SIT) certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire preferred.
