Job Summary

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the City agency responsible for oversight of the for-hire vehicle industries in New York City including the drivers and owners of yellow medallion taxis green Boro Taxis community car services black cars (including those booked via smartphone app) certain luxury limousines commuter vans and paratransit vehicles. These industries serve more thanpassengers each day and are a key component of the citys transportation network. Through functions such as driver background checks vehicle inspections and driver education TLCs role is to promote the highest standards of safety and consumer protection in the industries we regulate.

TLC is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to help the Agency continue its work to develop a modern innovative approach to the licensing process with the key goals of (1) providing excellent customer service to our clients and (2) improving the efficiency of our internal operations. We are actively seeking technological changes and enhancements to modernize our processes and as a Licensing Specialist within the Licensing and Standards Division you will be a key part of that change. The ideal candidate will possess experience working with a large operation(s); have a strong customer service background (preferably with diverse populations); and a background in using technology to enhance process. A keen understanding of current TLC Systems / applications and databases is a must.

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Licensing with minimum latitude for independent initiative and judgment the successful applicant will perform responsible work in the implementation coordination monitoring and execution of application processing and licensing services; responsibilities include reviewing and processing applications and payments in strict accordance with standard operating procedures; verifying applicant information using systems such as TAMIS NAU/TLCUP and DMV to ensure accuracy; updating systems and performing data entry; notifying applicants and licensees of invalid applications or missing documentation; serving as a point of contact for licensees applicants and external and internal customers by handling inquiries via telephone email and in person; troubleshooting and escalating issues in a professional and timely manner; and responding to inquiries within 48 hours while maintaining a professional customer-focused attitude.

*Candidates must currently be serving in a permanent Clerical Associate civil service title to apply or have taken and passed the Associate Investigator civil service exam.*

Qualifications :

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
