POSITION TITLE:High School Theology Instructor SY 2026-27 FLSA CLASSIFICATION:Exempt REPORTS TO:High School Principal A Theology instructor at Notre Dame de Sion High School not only provides high quality innovative and rigorous instruction but is instrumental in our school goal to develop students who are well-rounded faith-filled citizens and servant leaders. This is accomplished in an atmosphere of love respect hopefulness openness and by building connections through relationships. Sion educators are: Confident Practitioners:they know their subject and the instructional techniques to help students meet educational goals. Growth-Minded Learners:they understand that knowledge is not finite - students and teachers can grow learn new things and accomplish tasks they never knew were possible. QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
- Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission.
- Practicing Catholic
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Theology correlated subject matter. Special consideration given to candidates with Masters degrees in subject area with the ability to teach dual high school/college courses.
- Knowledge of best practices in instruction and curricular design including design thinking experiential learning modeling authentic assessment and standards-based curriculum development.
- Deep understanding of the specific needs of adolescent girl development including social emotional needs.
- Demonstrated classroom management and facilitative skills.
- Demonstrated lab management and safety skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with students parents faculty and staff.
- Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions on faculty committees.
- Ability to set goals and accept professional feedback.
- Must demonstrate competency with school related technology.
- Maintain professional credentials as required by Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) or other accrediting agencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES - Effectively integrates Diocesan and USCCB standards into classroom instruction and curriculum design.
- Prepares and implements lesson plans for such instruction.
- Collaborates with faculty in all disciplines with an eye towards providing interdisciplinary opportunities.
- Employ a variety of progressive educational strategies that make learning engaging experiential productive and enriching.
- Incorporates the skills from the Sion Success Outcomes into theology curriculum.
- Creates and teaches a two-week place based experiential learning course as a part of Sions Deep Dive programming.
- Works with the Director of Theology and Principal towards the continual refinement and improvement of the Theology program.
- Collaborates with the Theology department to create meaningful retreats liturgies and service-learning opportunities.
- Map curriculum to standards and Sion Success Outcomes.
- Participates in general duties such as study hall supervision class coverage for absent teachers and supervision at after school events (i.e. dances athletic events etc.).
- Maintains current attendance and student records.
- Attends all required professional development faculty and staff meetings parent meetings and any special meeting(s)requested by the administration.
- Continues personal and professional development conferences and other development opportunities to ensure that teaching practices remain current.
- Assists with other projects programs and planning as assigned by the High School Principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT - Works in a classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Occasionally bend stoop and squat
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
