As our Software and Application Support and Maintenance Developer you will support and maintain enterprise-level applications critical to WDFW operations.


Join the IT Services Application Development team and independently diagnose and resolve software and system issues collaborate with customers to deliver effective solutions and contribute to application maintenance releases and new development efforts using technologies and database tools.

What to Expect-


Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role the Software and Application Support and Maintenance Developer will perform


Application Development:

  • Programming activity includes making code changes or writing new code based on business requirements.
  • Modify based on requirements documents service ticket descriptions and functional specifications using: Languages (ex. Microsoft Windows C# MS SQL Server JavaScript Java) Unit testing and Peer Review.


Database Reporting:

  • Design test and implement data retrieval methods including proprietary reports database views stored procedures SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) processes and SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) reports.
  • Design and implement reports based on business requirements.


Software Design & Documentation:

  • Apply expert knowledge of systems and business process to product designs for system creation and updates. Create and maintain technical documentation for supported and systems.
  • Documentation includes design documents architecture documentation and troubleshooting procedures.


Software Testing:

  • Using application development skills and knowledge; collaborate with other developers on complex multi-level testing (unit automated integration system performance browser regression etc.) to assure quality work products for the agency.


Working Conditions:


Work Setting including hazards:Duties are performed in an office setting.

Schedule:Typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Monday through Friday.

A varied schedule may be required including working weekends and overtime during peak periods system implementations maintenance and outages.

Travel Requirements:Some travel may be required throughout the State to attend trainings meetings and conferences.



Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

Must meet one (1) of the three options below to qualify:

Option 1 All of the following (experience and skills may be gained concurrently):

  • Bachelors degree with an emphasis in computer science.
  • Two (2) years of experience designing developing maintaining or troubleshooting software or applications.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing data analysis and reporting using a relational database.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in particular the ability to relate technical issues to a non-technical audience.

Option 2 All of the following (experience and skills may be gained concurrently):

  • Associates degree that includes 30 quarter computer science credits.
  • One (1) year of information systems experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience designing developing maintaining or troubleshooting software or applications.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing data analysis and reporting using a relational database.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in particular the ability to relate technical issues to a non-technical audience.

Option 3 All of the following (experience and skills may be gained concurrently):

  • Eight (8) years of IT experience with at least four (4) years of experience in application development specifically building n-tier data management applications using and/or C#.Net.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing data analysis and reporting using a relational database.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in particular the ability to relate technical issues to a non-technical audience.


Preferred Qualifications:


In addition to the required qualifications our ideal applicant will possess one or more of the following:


Experience:

  • Strong understanding of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) and experience managing and supporting an ITSM (Information Technology Service Management) solution such as Atlassian Jira Service Management.
  • Experience with multiple technologies and the ability to learn new things quickly.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with a variety of staff at all technical skill levels.

Knowledge of:

  • Principals and concepts of business process and software design; relational and distributed database technology; networks and communications; and project management.
  • Software development methodologies and life cycles.
  • Current trends in information technology software business systems hardware networks and communications.
  • Commonly used programming languages databases and operating systems on multiple hardware platforms.
  • Commercially available software and application evaluation techniques.
  • Applications development and structured analysis methods; data modeling theory and methods; disaster planning and recovery techniques; debugging and error detection.
  • Software applications such as finance human resources utility billing geographical information systems and permitting.
  • Application form screen and report design techniques.


Proficiency with:

  • A variety of complex programming languages databases and operating systems on multiple hardware platforms.
  • The use of design and testing tools and methodologies.
  • The use of various desktop tools and development environments.
  • The appropriate use of relational and distributed database technology.
