Job Summary: The Pathologists Assistant supports anatomic pathology services under the direction of a Pathologist. This role focuses on the gross examination of surgical specimens assistance with post-mortem examinations and ensuring accurate specimen handling in accordance with established pathology standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination dissection and description of surgical specimens and biopsies.
- Select and submit appropriate tissue sections for microscopic examination including frozen and permanent sections.
- Accession specimens and ensure proper identification in compliance with surgical pathology policies.
- Assist with autopsy procedures including external examination organ inspection dissection and documentation.
- Support resident training and assess competency in specimen handling.
- Perform gross photography and support tumor procurement for biorepository use.
- Participate in quality assurance specimen identification and equipment maintenance activities.
- Maintain inventory and supplies for the surgical pathology laboratory.
- Ensure proper tissue retention and disposal after case finalization.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of Pathologists Assistant experience
- Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists Assistant program or prior certification through the American Association of Pathologists Assistants (AAPA)
Education: Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally accredited institution Required
Certifications: PA (ASCP) Certification Preferred
