Diabetes Action Canada is seeking a dynamic communications professional with strong writing editing interviewing and storytelling skills. This role requires editorial judgment and the ability to craft compelling content for various communication channels including the website intranet video platforms and social media while ensuring high quality and timely delivery.
The successful candidate will play a key role in building and engaging Diabetes Action Canadas national researcher and Patient Partner communities. This includes managing social media developing branded assets support website updates coordinating in-person and virtual events while maintaining a cohesive and compelling organizational presence. This position will support the Patient Engagement Program under the direction of the Manager Research Planning.
This position is hands-on collaborative and highly interactive. As part of this role the incumbent will represent Diabetes Action Canada on committees where communications and engagement expertise are beneficial and attend events workshops and conferences to capture content and strengthen community connection.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree or diploma in communications journalism marketing public relations or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in content creation editorial work or communications preferably in a healthcare research or nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrably strong writing editing and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex research concepts into clear compelling content for lay audiences.
- Proficiency with WordPress for website updates and content management.
- Experience with Canva or similar design tools to create accessible and visually engaging communication assets.
- Experience with email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp) and analytics dashboards.
- Proven track record in managing and creating content for social media platforms (LinkedIn Instagram X Facebook BlueSky etc.).
- Ability to design branded content templates to maintain consistency across communication channels.
- Experience in developing and implementing communication plans to engage diverse audiences.
- Portfolio or Samples of relevant work preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills to support relationship-building with Patient Partners researchers and other stakeholders.
- Experience supporting events workshops and engagement activities both virtual and in-person.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to attend in-person events in the GTA and occasional travel within Canada as required
- Commitment to health equity patient-oriented research and the mission of Diabetes Action Canada.
