At a Glance! The Rural Outreach Navigator serves as a direct liaison between Lower Columbia College (LCC) and students at rural high schools. The Outreach Navigator will conduct regular outreach and engagement activities with high school students including applying to Lower Columbia College financial aid and scholarship preparation and completion educating students about dual credit opportunities and providing direct support with other admissions activities. The Outreach Navigator will work closely with the High School College and Career Readiness Specialist at the rural high schools through regular communication collaboration data sharing and training to support students transition from high school to postsecondary opportunities. Reporting to the Director of Outreach the Outreach Navigator will also support the Director and the Outreach team in event planning and execution recruitment and engagement of prospective students within the college service district.

We are looking for someone who has exceptional customer service skills is highly collaborative and willing to go the extra mile to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience for LCCs diverse student population. The Outreach Navigator is an active participant of LCCs Student Services Council focused on collaboration and coordination of holistic student support across a students educational journey. Serving as a liaison from the Outreach department the Outreach Navigator must build and maintain highly collaborative relationships across campus with Advising Effectiveness and College Relations Faculty Financial Aid One-Stop Registration Testing and other campus services to ensure excellent service and support to students.

The Rural Outreach Navigator is classified as a Program Specialist 2 and is 40 hrs/week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm with some evening and weekend responsibilities. There is a 5% assignment pay premium for use of Spanish skills in addition to the posted salary range if the applicant is Spanish-speaking (following Spanish assessment). The Rural Outreach Navigator reports to the Director of Outreach Services.

Successful candidates typically start towards the beginning of the salary range and will receive scheduled salary increases.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate outreach recruitment and engagement activities with rural high school staff faculty students and family members for the purposes of increasing college-going planning and readiness financial aid application and planning including FAFSA WASFA and LCC Foundation Scholarships addressing misconceptions about college and access opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain regular communication and coordination with High School College and Career Readiness Specialists to ensure seamless transition from high school to Lower Columbia College.
  • Support the Director and Assistant Director in delivering targeted outreach and recruitment activities to historically underrepresented student populations including communities of color low-income communities students with disabilities opportunity youth and adult populations.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence including awareness and understanding of historically underrepresented populations and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity diversity and inclusion.
  • In support of the Director of Outreach develop and implement communication plans to keep prospective students on track with key activities to enroll and advance towards completion and transfer and career goals.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to CTE Dual Enrollment high school students parents school teachers administrators and district officials representing the College at programs for the Dual Enrollment high school market and encouraging dual credit students to consider attending LCC upon graduation.
  • Work in collaboration with LCC Deans of Instruction Registration CTE faculty and other Workforce staff to ensure accurate Programs of Study transcript evaluation and agreements.
  • Maintain current and accurate documentation of Programs of Study (POS) as required by the Carl D. Perkins Act of 2018.
  • Maintain accurate paper and digital files forms and contact information. Evaluate high school transcripts and/or grade sheets and assist with the transcription of CTE Dual Credit in ctcLink in partnership with LCCs Registration staff as requested.
  • Provide enrollment reports and data for incoming dual credit students.
  • Respond to requests for information about CTE dual credit and admissions processes.
  • Lead planning efforts for events affiliated with the Carl D. Perkins Act such as: Try-A-Trade; Pizza Pop and Power Tools; and Guys and Guts including maintaining detailed event notes and records.
  • Cross-train Outreach Navigators to ensure accurate information is shared across the service district about CTE dual credit.
  • Plan facilitate and host and participate in outreach events including presentations and orientations to new and prospective students high school counselors LCC advisors and other parties to promote LCC opportunities including dual credit application support enrollment processes scholarship and financial aid and other activities related to community engagement and college outreach and recruitment.
  • Provide campus tours and on-campus visits.
  • Maintain accurate files forms contact information and tracking of prospective students including using college systems and tools.
  • Manage a designated group of new students in order to complete welcoming activities and communications such as text message communication tracking New Student engagement and referring students to appropriate LCC resources.
  • Monitor enrollment and achievement indicators to ensure access retention and completion of diverse student populations.
  • Work closely with the student ambassadors and One-Stop Center to ensure seamless onboarding for students.
  • Coordinate credit transcription in partnership with students K12 partners and LCC Registration staff.
  • Maintain positive relationships with all participating schools LCC staff and faculty local industry higher education partners and community members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Education Communications Social Sciences Business Marketing Counseling or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience of working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Self-starter with high degree of motivation reliability flexibility and integrity as this position requires independent work and travel
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with teams and community partners
  • Strong oral written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Sound organizational and problem-solving abilities leading topositive outcomes
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer processing software presentation software and/or social media tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Communications Education Marketing Social Sciences Student Development or related field appropriate to outreach and recruiting
  • Experience in student recruitment sales admissions or related field
  • Previous experience in an educational setting (K12 or higher education)
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices
