Job Summary and Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Student Support Services the Coordinator of Student Mental Health will assist schools in making strategic data-informed decisions that ensure all students are physically mentally and emotionally supported. This position centralizes and coordinates mental health services across counselors psychologists social workers administrators families and community providers to ensure timely access to tiered interventions social-emotional learning supports suicide prevention efforts trauma-informed care and crisis response.
Work Objectives/Essential Functions
- Coordinates division-wide mental health services by facilitating communication and alignment among school counselors school psychologists social workers administrators and community mental health providers.
- Leads the development implementation and monitoring of tiered mental health interventions including SEL curriculum screening and structured counseling and classroom-support schedules.
- Oversees suicide prevention and response programming monitors Suicide Risk Assessments postvention supports ensuring fidelity to division protocols.
- Develops and delivers professional learning related to trauma-informed care crisis response and mental health best practices for school-based mental health teams and staff.
- Serves as a liaison with families and external mental health agencies to coordinate services support continuity of care and promote responsible communication and data-sharing.
- Analyzes and monitors mental health data referral patterns and program outcomes to support strategic planning resource allocation and continuous improvement.
- Supports and manages the implementation of specialized programs and grants to strengthen prevention and early intervention efforts across the division.
Education and Experience
Education Level
Masters degree in a mental health related field required with strong preference for degree in counseling psychology or social work.

- Three (3) years of professional experience with preference for experience in a role requiring data analysis and reporting
- Three (3) years of professional experience providing clinical mental health services

Required Licensures and Certifications
Holds a valid Virginia license in a mental health discipline (e.g. LPC LCSW LCP LMFT) or is eligible for licensure within one year of hire.
Formal Certifications Relevant to the Job
Eligible for Pupil Personnel license through the Virginia Department of Education preferred
Additional Skill Requirements
- Demonstrated adherence to ethical standards of practice and confidentiality under federal and state law (FERPA HIPAA VDOE regulations).
- Knowledge of evidence-based mental health interventions crisis response trauma-informed practices and tiered systems of support (MTSS/SEL).
- Familiarity with suicide risk assessment tools safety planning and postvention procedures.
- Understanding of school-based counseling models and laws related to student mental health mandated reporting and special education (IDEA and Section 504).
- Ability to collect analyze and interpret mental health and behavioral data to support decisions and program development.
- Exceptional communication consultation and collaboration skills with students families staff and external providers.
- Strong organizational skills including managing multiple tasks timelines and compliance requirements.
- Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals.
- Organize and perform work independently.
- Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects.
- Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work.
