Project Manager Learning Sectors


Role purpose

The Project Manager Learning Sectors is responsible for the successful implementation of the coding competition for secondary students in partnership with Brazilian states and also sponsored globally by a STEM industry as part of the ESG strategy. This role will be responsible for effective planning management coordination delivery and evaluation of the project in Brazil as part of a wider global project that will also have deliveries in Mexico India South Africa and the UK among others.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Project Management

  • Responsible for planning coordination managing implementation and quality assuring of the Schools Connects Project work in Brazil as per the project management framework Project plans project management standards and client needs. This will include sound and effective programme management practices that deliver outstanding impact for the British Council and partners.
  • Identify opportunities for the program development and expansion; building on lessons learned needs assessments and coordination with key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for ensuring project compliance with all the British Council internal processes and policies and the clients processes policies and procedures.
  • Identify assess report and monitor progress in addressing risks to the achievement of the project objectives.
  • Maintain a robust and updated project risk management register as well as safeguarding.
  • Manage project budgets to corporate standards ensuring prompt reporting and continuous monitoring of the project expenditure in line with the implementation plan.
  • Meeting the agreed project financial spend targets and reporting procedures.
  • Ensure all procurement and contract for service are in line with corporate and client policy and that documentation is robust and stored appropriately for future reference.

Relationship and Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain and nurture relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally and to support the Head of English and School Systems in Brazil and other colleagues to identify potential partnerships and new business possibilities and opportunities to replicate the competition in other State School Systems.

Brand and Market Positioning

  • Where required ensure that the project is marketed internally and externally to the highest standards in print (press publications) digitally (websites social media TV radio) and at events (conferences workshops meetings). Working collaboratively with the Communications and Digital teams to showcase the impact of the project.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the global Schools Connects project to share intelligence and opportunities that create added benefit to the project partners and client.

  • Ensure that the project delivery and activity reflect British Council EDI policy.
  • Ensure that Child Protection/Adults at Risk Policy standards and other Safeguarding measures/policies are followed and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Other administrative work: as required and delegated by the line manager or the Schools Connects programme lead.

Role Specific Skills

Minimum/essential

  • Degree and/or equivalent and/or equivalent experience.
  • Proven relevant experience in project development and management.
  • Experience supporting the monitoring reporting development and coordination of privately funded project as corporate social responsibility initiative.
  • Evidence of developing and delivering high-quality work as commissioned to a deadline.
  • Experience managing programme budgets effectively including planning and forecasting of expenditure.
  • Supported management of risks within projects including mitigation strategies for activities.
  • Supported reporting sharing impact stories of a project.
  • Experience working with schools

Desirable

  • Experience working with funding and delivery partners.
  • Experience of presenting and communicating programme success to a range of external audiences.
  • Time working for an international organisation with globally dispersed teams.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding (e-safeguarding specially).
  • Knowledge if equality diversity and inclusion strategies.

Additional Information

  • Unsocial/long hours are likely to be required from time to time as role is required to work across international time zones (UK and wider Americas region).
  • The role may include occasional travel within the country region or internationally.

Language Requirement

  • Portuguese and English (both written and spoken) at IELTS level 6.0 / CEFR B2 or equivalent. Non-native speakers of Portuguese may be required to take a Portuguese language test.
