Contract Summary
Establish fish habitat restoration priorities to improve aquatic restoration coordination and inform resource management decisions across Canada. Improved information sharing across the restoration community will help foster strategic action toward shared restoration goals and address the growing challenges of habitat loss and degradation on First Nations in Manitoba. Engagement and partnering with First Nations and other stakeholders fosters inclusive and informed decision-making for restoration. Support from the restoration community improves a projects long-term success by leveraging interest commitment and partnerships in restoration.
Key Objectives
- Host and facilitate up to 3 workshops with several First Nations in Manitoba to discuss and identify restoration priorities and actions. Follow-up with additional participants as required to improve understanding.
- Completion of a What was heard from First Nations on Fish Habitat Restoration Priorities and Actions in Manitoba from all engagements on Restoration Priorities.
- Create an excel spreadsheet with GPS coordinates and information on Restoration Priority and Restoration Action Sites that DFO can use publicly including hosting on a public mapping website.
- Build additional capacity to collect and share fish and fish habitat knowledge and opportunities for restoration actions moving forward.
- Further collaboration between AMC First Nations and DFO which builds and improves upon a stronger trusting relationship to promote understanding and cooperation in the protection of fish and fish habitat in Manitoba
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Degree and/or experience in the environmental or economic
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
- Ability to write clearly and creatively within tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal abilities with the capacity to build and maintain effective networks and relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn new technologies.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Resourcefulness passion judgement tact and initiative.
- Adaptable to flexible work scheduling and occasional travel as required. Valid Class 5F Drivers License and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to work cooperatively as a part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals and demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Adhere to AMC policies and procedures with specific attention to attendance and professional ethics.
- Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search.
