Mama Money is a growth stage fintech startup working to help migrant workers in South Africa send money home. Since 2015 we have been providing reliable remittances at a socially fair price to those that need it most.



As the Remittances Product Manager you will own the end to end development of Mama Moneys international money transfer products. This includes defining the remittance product strategy optimising the customer send and receive journey and working closely with both front end and back end engineering teams.

You will collaborate with cross functional partners including engineering design compliance operations payments and customer support to deliver a world class low cost money transfer experience for our global customer base.

As our Remittances Product Manager you will:

    • Product Strategy and Roadmap:Define and drive the product vision strategy and roadmap for Mama Moneys cross border remittance ecosystem.
    • Lead the development of features that improve customer onboarding transaction success rates payout speed and transfer reliability.
    • Identify opportunities to expand into new corridors partners and payout methods while ensuring strong product market fit in each region.
    • User Experience and Design:Partner with designers and front end engineers to build a fast intuitive and trustworthy remittance experience across mobile and web.
    • Reduce friction in the send flow through UX improvements clearer communication and simplified compliance steps.
    • Payments Payouts and Infrastructure: Work with back end engineers and payment specialists to build scalable resilient money movement infrastructure.
    • Improve integration with banks mobile money operators cash out partners and global payout networks.
    • Ensure systems meet regulatory risk and compliance requirements across all markets.
    • Cross Team Collaboration:Collaborate with compliance and risk teams to implement seamless compliant KYC and transaction monitoring processes.
    • Partner with operations support and marketing teams to monitor corridor performance and drive customer adoption.
    • Work with the data team to identify root causes of failed or delayed transfers and deliver solutions that improve success rates.
    • Data Driven Decision Making:Analyse customer behaviour funnel performance and transaction lifecycle data to guide product decisions.
    • Use AB testing customer feedback and market insights to continuously optimise conversion and retention.
    • Market Research and Benchmarking:Stay informed about international remittance trends competitor offerings pricing structures payout innovations and customer needs.
    • Benchmark Mama Moneys remittance product against global leaders to ensure we remain competitive affordable and reliable.

What were looking for:

    • 6 years plus of product management experience ideally in remittances payments fintech mobile money or cross border money movement.
    • Experience working across both front end and back end product development.
    • Strong understanding of payments infrastructure money transfer flows settlement processes and compliance frameworks.
    • Ability to translate business regulatory and customer needs into clear technical requirements.
    • A data driven mindset with experience using analytics tools to inform prioritisation and decision making.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non technical teams.
    • Prior experience in high growth customer focused tech environments.

In your first 90 days at Mama Money you will:

    • Get to know the ins and outs of our remittance business including how send flows payout partners and internal systems work together.
    • Understand Mama Moneys mission values and long term product goals.
    • Dive into current projects performance metrics and known challenges. Identify opportunities for optimisation.
    • Work closely with the Tech Team to align on quarterly priorities and integration timelines.
    • Build relationships with key external payout partners banks and service providers.
    • Review current corridor performance and propose initial initiatives to improve success rates and customer experience.
