Position Summary

The Assistant Superintendent serves as the districts chief academic leader responsible for advancing the instructional vision academic excellence and equity commitments of Crossroads Charter Schools.

Reporting to the Superintendent the Assistant Superintendent oversees all areas that directly impact teaching learning instructional quality and student outcomes. This includes curriculum and instruction assessment and accountability special education 504 academic interventions English Language Learners PreK enrichment counseling and SEL school culture professional development technology integration for learning federal academic programs and all academic support services.

The Assistant Superintendent supervises principals and district academic leaders ensuring alignment with Crossroads mission core values and Missouri Learning Standards. This individual serves as a key liaison to the Board of Directors on academic matters and collaborates with families staff and community stakeholders to support exceptional learning environments across the district. This role ensures high-quality services compliance and equitable outcomes for all student groups.


Position Responsibilities


I. Academic Leadership & Strategic Direction

  • Lead the development implementation and continuous improvement of the districts academic vision and instructional priorities
  • Ensure all instructional programs align with state standards district goals and the Crossroads mission and core values.
  • Use data research and best practices to drive short- and long-term instructional planning.
  • Provide direct support oversight and coaching to principals and district academic leaders to ensure effective instructional leadership.

II. Curriculum Instruction & Assessment

  • Oversee the development revision and implementation of PreK12 curriculum across all content areas.
  • Ensure consistent rigorous instructional practices aligned to Missouri Learning Standards and district frameworks.
  • Lead district assessment systems data cycles and instructional decision-making processes.
  • Monitor student achievement and growth ensuring improvement in district/state assessment results and reduction of achievement gaps.

III. Student Services & Academic Supports

  • Oversee all programs that support equitable access to learning including:
    • Special Education
    • English Learners
    • 504 and Intervention Systems
    • Counseling and Social Emotional Learning
    • PreK Programs
    • Enrichment and Accelerated Learning
    • School Culture and Restorative Practices
    • Real World Learning

IV. Professional Learning & Staff Development

  • Collaborate with building leaders to design lead and evaluate districtwide professional development.
  • Ensure effective new teacher induction and support.
  • Lead implementation of the teaching and learning cycle and instructional coaching systems.
  • Develop future instructional leaders through intentional coaching mentoring and leadership pipelines.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of PD through teacher feedback classroom observation data and student outcomes.


V. Leadership Supervision Coaching & Talent Development

  • Directly supervise support and evaluate principals and district academic leaders.
  • Build capacity for instructional leadership at each school.
  • Provide coaching to principals and district academic leaders in areas including data use instruction culture and teacher development.
  • Support implementation of the Staff Recruitment & Retention Plan as it relates to teacher effectiveness and academic leadership roles.
  • Collaborate with HR on educator evaluation systems and instructional coaching models.


VI. Compliance Accountability & Reporting

  • Ensure all academic departments comply with federal and state requirements (e.g. IDEA ESSA Title programs ELL regulations).
  • Oversee charter requirements and academic reporting to DESE.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the Superintendent and Board of Directors on academic performance program evaluation and improvement plans.
  • Present clear data-informed updates on student outcomes instructional initiatives and improvement efforts.


VII. Family Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with families to support student learning and shared problem-solving.
  • Serve as district representative for academic initiatives with community organizations and educational partners as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with families and staff about academic programs expectations and progress.
  • Support schools in building effective homeschool academic partnerships.


VIII. Innovation and Real-World Learning (Implementation)

  • Support principals and teachers in implementing innovative instructional practices and Real-World Learning experiences.
  • Ensure academic rigor and alignment within experiential and project-based learning opportunities.
  • Serve as district liaison for real world learning partnerships.


Skills & Qualifications


  • Masters degree in Educational Administration required; Ed.S. or doctorate preferred.
  • Missouri Superintendent License preferred.
  • Minimum five years of successful school or district leadership experience with proven impact on student achievement.
  • Deep expertise in curriculum instruction assessment and school improvement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive practices.
  • Experience supervising principals and/or district academic teams preferred.
  • Strong ability to analyze data diagnose instructional needs and guide improvement.
  • Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse staff students families and community partners.
  • Ability to travel among school locations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must pass an extensive background check.
