Reporting to the Supervisor(s) of Waste Diversion the Labourer Material Recovery Facility (Casual) Windsor performs general labour tasks and supports the Green Bin Program as required.

The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is the governmental agency charged with the responsibility of providing an economical and environmentally conscious integrated solid waste management system for the County of Essex and the City of Windsor. The mission of the EWSWA is to provide programs to manage the solid non-hazardous waste generated in the County of Essex and the City of Windsor in an environmentally sound manner through processes which include but are not necessarily limited to reduction reuse recycling composting and landfilling.
What Youll Do
In this role you will be responsible for:
Work at a dynamic site inspecting incoming yard waste electronics and/or other material types brought in by customers and direct vehicles to the appropriate drop-off location
Interact charge and collect payment from customers for the disposal of material or sale of compost
Lift move and place heavy material gathered on-site which includes but is not limited to: placing compost bags in customer vehicles and loading electronic waste into waste bins
Conduct on-site litter patrols and litter clean-up duties
Enforce EWSWAs site policies and procedures and report violations to the Supervisor/Manager
Perform housekeeping duties at on-site EWSWA facilities
Support EWSWA programs which include but are not limited to: delivering goods to merchants assisting in special events and participating in waste audits and other duties/tasks as assigned
What You Bring
Education and Commitment to Growth:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or recognized equivalent
Experience and Expertise:
Must have a minimum of 1 month of related work experience
Skills and Abilities:
Must be in good physical condition/able to work outdoors in all types of inclement weather conditions and be able to lift up to 40lbs
Appropriate training and certificates to operate vehicles such as forklifts and front-end loaders will be considered an asset
Good mechanical skills and experience with routine heavy equipment maintenance will be considered an asset
Other Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Class G Ontario drivers license and have access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel within Windsor and/or the County of Essex
Must provide a Ministry of Transportation Driver Abstract (Uncertified)
Must provide a Police Information Check (PIC) document
Hours of Work The hours of work will vary. The candidate may be required to work any day from Monday to Saturday (inclusive) either a day or afternoon shift and be available for call-in as needed.
Site Hours: From April 1 to November 30 the Windsor site operates Monday through Saturday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and from December 1 to March 31 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
