Job Summary

About the Position: We are seeking a reliable and skilled Facility Maintenance Worker (Full-Time) to oversee the upkeep and safety of all CTH facilities. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor this multi-site role (primarily based in Calgary) involves performing routine repairs professional finishing year-round property maintenance and mandatory monthly inspections across our community group homes and office locations. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who is prepared to respond to emergency repairs and security situations to ensure our environments remain safe for the children and families we serve.


Please note that the Intervention Record Check (IRC) from Children and Family Services and Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (PIC) are one of the non-negotiable compliance requirements for all Closer to Home employees before an offer letter can be issued. Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and skilled repairs in plumbing electrical and carpentry across all agency facilities.
  • Year-round grounds maintnenance and snow removal.
  • Repair damage incurred within group home environments ensuring a safe and therapeutic space for youth.
  • Conduct comprehensive monthly facility and fleet inspections documenting safety compliance and structural integrity.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours emergency response to mitigate immediate physical hazards such as boarding up broken windows or securing damaged entryways to ensure the safety of children and staff.
  • Coordinate and supervise out-sourced trades and casual labour for specialized projects as required.
  • Proactively source and purchase materials and supplies required for repairs; develop cost estimates for larger maintenance projects and work within established budget guidelines.
  • Manage vehicle maintenance for agency vehicles including routine servicing and tire maintenance.
  • Ensure all exterior facility areas including walkways and emergency exits are safe and clear of hazards.
  • Document all activities including monthly reports asset disposals and expense reimbursements.
  • Regional Site Support: Provide occasional maintenance support and repair services to regional facilities in Southern Alberta including Lethbridge and Medicine Hat as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 1- 3 years of proven experience in construction facility maintenance or a related journeyman trade.
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Applicants must show proof of a class 5 Alberta drivers license a personal vehicle and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Applicants must also agree to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle and consent to the possibility of an annual drivers abstract review to meet our insurance providers requirements. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines and CTH policy.
  • Flexibility to perform occasional long-distance driving to regional sites when necessary.
  • A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check must be completed prior to commencement.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a maintenance schedule across various geographic locations while staying within agency approval guidelines and budget.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with agency staff and program participants.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted climb ladders and work in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in HVAC Plumbing Electrical or Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
  • Experience with building automation and security systems.
  • Prior experience working within a non-profit or human services environment.
  • A personal truck for work purposes and access to your own tools is considered an asset.
