Two (2) year diploma program in a related field (other completed educational equivalencies may be considered)
Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in parks construction maintenance and operations

Assets:

Possession of a Canadian Playground Safety Institute (CPSI) certification or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of employment

Skills required for success:

Ability to lead develop and motivate effective work crews in a fast-paced environment
Extensive knowledge of the methods materials and tools used in parks maintenance and construction
Previous experience in a supervisory or lead hand capacity within a municipal or construction environment
Demonstrated knowledge of the City of Edmonton Design and Construction Guidelines
Experience conducting workplace safety investigations and processing WCB or incident documentation
Strong communication skills to handle conflicts and interact professionally with community partners and coworkers
Skilled in performing routine equipment inspections and minor maintenance to ensure operational readiness
Analytical skills to interpret work assignments complete task cards and monitor financial data
Experience using Google Suite (Docs Sheets) and SAP for administrative tasks
Proven ability to adapt work plans in real-time to address emergent safety issues or changing priorities

Conditions of Employment:

Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement
Successful candidates must be fit for a respirator and comply with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment
Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Possession of current Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED certifications

Work Environment:

The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains
Exposure to environmental conditions including extreme temperatures inclement weather dust noise vibrations and mechanical/electrical hazards may occur
This is a public-facing role requiring interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds and emotional states
Requires completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks such as standing walking kneeling bending and lifting items up to 100 pounds
Requires physical stamina and resilience for pushing pulling reaching and using feet/hand controls
Working at heights may be required
Requires 24/7 availability including weekends and nights for various tasks depending on operational requirements
Must be willing to work day night and weekend shifts up to 10 hours per shift

Are you a hands-on leader with a passion for maintaining safe vibrant outdoor spaces for our community The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated Labourer II / Licensed Crew Leader to join our Infrastructure Maintenance this dual role you will play a vital part in ensuring that our playspaces and sports field structures remain top-tier environments for all users. Whether you are leading a team through complex repairs or performing essential maintenance yourself your work will directly contribute to the safety and enjoyment of residents across the city.

In this role you will provide field-level supervision and mentorship to crews performing semi-skilled manual duties from April through October. During this peak season you will ensure all playground repairs meet strict Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and City of Edmonton guidelines to ensure safety and mitigate risks. From November to March your focus shifts to supporting maintenance operations as a Labourer II adapting to seasonal requirements such as asset rehabilitation or snow removal. This position is a blend of leadership and active labor requiring a sharp eye for detail and a commitment to safety. You will serve as a primary contact for the public regarding maintenance inquiries and will help cultivate a culture of excellence within your team.

What will you do

Licensed Crew Leader (April to October):

Provide field-level supervision and hands-on leadership to deliver approved work plans and set daily priorities
Ensure all playground inspections and repairs are completed to the CSA Z614-14 Childrens Playspaces standard
Train mentor and orient staff on the safe use of equipment tools and best practices
Investigate inquiries from 311 and other sources related to parkland tasks or activities
Assist in recruitment processes conduct seasonal evaluations and manage safety documentation such as incident reports
Prepare estimates for work completion and provide input into annual budget and project planning processes

Labourer II (November to March):

Perform semi-skilled manual labor including playground repairs and the rehabilitation of park furniture and auxiliary assets
Operate a variety of tools and equipment such as skid steers chainsaws tractors and power saws
Conduct regular equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance to ensure everything is functioning properly
Carry out sanitation duties including debris pick-up to meet the needs of facility users
Execute winter-specific duties such as snow removal based on operational requirements
