JOB SUMMARY

This position will provide direct support to communitymembers using trauma informed and culturally safe practices.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide direct support to community members accessing SiloamMissions Shelter services;
• Incorporate a Housing-Focused approach whenworking with community members;
• Using a behaviour-based approach when workingwith community members;
• Using Restorative practices when dealingwith behavioural issues;
• Prepare and complete incident reports daily logs and otherrequired documents and reports;
• Respond to emergency situations that occur in the Shelter;
• Support the team in the daily clean-ups in the Shelter area.
• Coordinating with housing-focused case workers regardinghousing plans of community members;
• Ensuring guidelines for baggagelimitations are being followed and explained;

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Post-secondaryeducation in relevant social services or equivalent relevant experience;
• Demonstrated knowledge of Cultural AwarenessAnti-Oppressive Practice Trauma-Informed best practices;
• Knowledge of community resources for homelessness healthmental health and substance use; and harm reduction;
• Certificates in NVCI ASIST CPR First Aid and Mental HealthFirst Aid preferred;
• Experience working with the HIFIS4 database is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS

• Ability to work with a diverse staffteam and promote inclusion and cultural awareness in the workplace;
• Good understanding of colonization and its impact on Indigenouspeoples;
• Demonstratedunderstanding of the unique issues and barriers affecting those experiencingpoverty and homelessness;
• Experience inresponding appropriately to potentially violent situations using NVCI;
• Ability to workwithin a harm reduction framework;
• Knowledge of HousingFirst Principles and housing resources;
• Excellent criticalthinking and problem-solving skills;
• Excellent writtenand oral communication skills;
• Ability tocommunicate appropriate professional boundaries;
• MS Office and data entryskills;

RELATIONSHIP

• Works closely Drop-in Staff Kitchen and Community Members.
• Housing-focused case workers

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Hours of work: 8 PM - 8 AM
• Work requires standing and walking over extended periods oftime.
• May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Overtime may be offered whennecessary.
• Hazardous conditions couldpotentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members;

• The incumbent contributes to making the organization safefor clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafesituations and participating in follow-up reviews as a learning opportunity.
• Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherence toWorkplace Safety and Health
• Regulations and Policies Infection Control GuidelinesWHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommendscorrective action on any unsafe acts work conditions incidents near missesinjuries or illnesses.
• Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities infire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and healthtraining programs including the facilitys Fire Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
• Supports an environment which avoids prevents and correctsall activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in thedelivery of services. Community Member safety is a standing item for allindividual and departmental meetings.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility towork in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit it istheir responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.

Wage: $ 20.08 - $ 27.17
