The ideal candidate is certified in both areas. 0. 6 Westford Academy Student Support LiaisonWestford Academy is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Teacher to serve as a Student Support this role you will teach support and problem-solve alongside colleagues to ensure all students reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in US History and a passion for Universal Design for Learning (UDL).Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Leadership: Lead specific content classes (history) and provide explicit instruction in executive functioning skills.
  • Inclusion Support: Partner with general education teachers to implement accommodations and support students within the general education environment.
  • IEP Management: Facilitate annual IEP meetings collaborate on the development of comprehensive IEPs and demonstrate a deep understanding of the special education process.
  • Assessment & Reporting: Conduct formal reevaluation assessments and provide high-quality written evaluations and progress reports for caregivers and guardians.
  • Curriculum & Goal Setting: Align instruction with district curriculum goals using UDL principles. Establish clear objectives for all lessons and use data-driven instruction to monitor student growth.
  • Professional Engagement: Participate in staff committees team meetings and professional development to improve instructional effectiveness across the school community.

The ideal candidate will foster a deep understanding of history civics and other social sciences guiding students to become informed and engaged citizens. This role requires a commitment to creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive and a commitment to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles ensuring that all students regardless of their learning styles strengths or challenges have equitable opportunities to access engage with and demonstrate their learning.Key Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Excellence:
    • Demonstrate strong knowledge of social studies subject areas and guide the learning process toward achieving district and school curriculum goals aligning with the Massachusetts History and Social Science Frameworks.
    • Design and deliver engaging lessons units and projects establishing and communicating clear learning objectives to students.
    • Create diverse learning experiences that build students abilities and require the application of critical thinking analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Organize instruction around essential questions and core learning objectives teaching for deep understanding and mastery. Provide students with varied opportunities for practice and extension as needed.
    • Employ a range of effective instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners in a diverse classroom setting.
  • Assessment and Student Growth:
    • Regularly assess student learning using multiple forms of assessment to gauge comprehension and skill development.
    • Utilize assessment data to inform and adjust current and future instruction ensuring student progress.
    • Communicate student progress effectively to stakeholders including parents and caregivers as needed.
    • Provide written assessments referrals and evaluations for students with special needs when necessary.
  • Classroom Environment and Collaboration:
    • Cultivate an engaging orderly secure and appealing classroom learning community that promotes mutual respect and active participation.
    • Design assignments that effectively support classroom learning and instruction.
    • Collaborate effectively with colleagues special education teachers English Language Learner specialists and support staff to address student needs and enhance the overall learning experience.
    • Participate in IEP meetings as required contributing to comprehensive student support.
  • Professionalism and School Community:
    • Actively engage in professional growth opportunities to enhance teaching practices and subject matter expertise.
    • Model learning and behavior consistent with the high expectations for Westford Academy students.
    • Attend staff and team meetings and serve on school committees as necessary.
    • Assist the administration in implementing all school policies and handbook rules governing student life and conduct.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
    • Become an active member of the school community with involvement in co-curricular roles and/or coaching when possible
