General Description

Responsible to the Director of Employer Engagement for strengthening partnerships between employers alumni and the University of Miami. The Assistant Director leads proactive employer outreach efforts coordinates external engagement activities and supports strategic initiatives designed to expand internship and full-time opportunities for students. This role requires strong communication skills a passion for connecting people and an enthusiasm for representing the University in the community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Employer Outreach and Relationship Development

  • Support the strategic direction and vision for Employer Engagement through market research employer analysis and benchmarking to identify growth opportunities aligned with departmental objectives
  • Lead targeted outreach through LinkedIn phone calls emails and office visits to employers in high-priority industries to increase recruiting engagement with University of Miami students
  • Identify and develop new employer relationships through networking site visits conferences and professional associations
  • Contribute to developing and implementing new employer engagement initiatives including targeted regional events and industry-focused strategies
  • Represent the Toppel Career Center at employer-hosted events career fairs and community functions to enhance the Universitys visibility
  • Schedule and conduct employer meetings both virtual and in-person to assess hiring needs and promote UM talent
  • Research community-based events and coordinate staff participation in community and industry events including the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce
  • Maintain consistent follow-up with employer partners to ensure high-quality experience and sustained engagement through email and phone calls every semester

Strategic Engagement Support

  • Collaborate with the Director of Employer Engagement and the Employer Engagement team during weekly meetings to design and implement outreach plans that align with institutional goals
  • Assist with planning and execution of employer-focused initiatives such as regional engagement events and networking receptions including collaborating with Alumni Engagement to support alumni-focused events
  • Leverage platforms such as Handshake and LinkedIn to identify target employers and alumni monitor engagement activity and track outcomes
  • Provide qualitative feedback and basic data summaries to inform team strategies ensuring outreach is effective and measurable
  • Coordinate with the Associate Director of Employer Engagement and Employer Engagement Coordinator to streamline communication with employers

Programmatic and Campus Collaboration

  • Partner with campus stakeholders including faculty alumni relations and the development and advancement team to promote employer partnerships
  • Partner with the Director and Employer Engagement team (Associate Director Assistant Director of Employer Relations and Coordinator) to execute initiatives such as the Toppel Awards Career Crawls and ToppelFest
  • Engage alumni working in key industries to create new recruiting pipelines and experiential opportunities for students
  • Collaborate with the Toppel Career Centers Career Education team to align employer engagement with student career interests
  • Support the marketing and promotion of employer events career fairs and networking programs through employer connections by email and through phone calls
  • Professionally represent the Toppel Career Center at both university and community events as needed
  • Ensure consistent documentation of employer activity and engagement outcomes in Handshake LinkedIn or CRM systems

General Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in team meetings strategy sessions and professional development opportunities
  • Maintain regular appointments with employers and students
  • Staff events including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong relationship management and networking skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication
  • High level of professionalism and ability to represent the University externally
  • Experience with career platforms such as Handshake LinkedIn or CRM systems
  • Strong organizational presentation and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel throughout the region and the country

Education Requirements

  • Masters degree in Higher Education or related area preferred
  • Bachelors degree required

Work Experience Requirements

  • Two to four years of experience with a bachelors degree
  • An appropriate combination of relevant education certifications and/or work experience will be considered
