Position SummaryThe Instructional Paraprofessional supports student learning by working under the direction of a certified teacher to provide instructional academic and behavioral support to students in whole-group small-group and individual settings. The paraprofessional plays a critical role in implementing classroom routines reinforcing instruction and supporting an inclusive student-centered learning Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional Paraprofessionals may be assigned to classrooms grade levels or specific students and are expected to:Support implementation of teacher-led instruction by reinforcing lessons directions and learning objectivesProvide targeted support to students during whole-class instruction small-group work and independent practiceAssist students with academic tasks aligned to curriculum including reading writing mathematics and content-area learningSupport students engagement attention and participation using established classroom routines and behavioral expectationsWork with multiple students as directed by the classroom teacher not exclusively with one student unless specified by assignmentFollow the instructional plans strategies and directions of the classroom teacher and related service providersSupport inclusive practices for students with disabilities multilingual learners and students requiring additional academic or behavioral supportAssist with data collection progress monitoring and documentation as directedHelp maintain a safe respectful and orderly learning environmentCommunicate professionally and appropriately with teachers support staff and administratorsMaintain confidentiality regarding student information at all timesAdditional ResponsibilitiesAssist with student transitions arrival and dismissal and classroom routines as assignedSupport lunch recess or brief coverage needs when required and assigned by administrationParticipate in required professional development training sessions and staff meetingsPerform other related duties as assigned consistent with the role of an instructional paraprofessionalQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredAssociates degree or college coursework preferredCandidates without a college degree must meet one of the following requirements:oPass a district- or state-approved paraprofessional assessment (e.g. ParaPro Assessment) oroBe enrolled in or commit to enrolling in a district-approved pathway toward paraprofessional certification in accordance with Lawrence Public Schools and Massachusetts DESE requirementsExperience working with children in an educational setting preferredAbility to work collaboratively under the direction of a certified teacherStrong communication organizational and interpersonal skillsCommitment to equity inclusion and supporting diverse learnersWork EnvironmentPrimarily classroom-basedMay support students with academic behavioral or social-emotional needsRequires active engagement with students throughout the school day including standing walking and movement between classrooms
