| Job Summary: |
The Regulatory Research Analyst Intern will be under the direct supervision of the Regulatory Economist. The intern will learn the importance of and how to be a part of executing the OEOs statutory mission of evaluating the economic impact and efficiency of state regulations. This internship offers hands-on experience in applied microeconomics regulatory analysis and public policy.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Cost Savings Analysis (A.A.C. Rule Revisions):
Conduct quarterly analyses to estimate the projected cost savings for Arizona businesses resulting from amended or eliminated rules in the Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.)
This involves meticulous review of rule text to identify the primary beneficiaries and classification of impacted industries using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes
Economic Impact Assessment GRRC Memos:
Review and summarize the economic impact statements of proposed rules
The intern will assist in preparing memos for the Governors Regulatory Review Council which summarize the economic effects on stakeholders and verify that the proposed rules quantifiable and qualitative benefits outweigh their estimated costs
Regulatory Burden Measurement:
Aid in ongoing research to quantify the restrictiveness of the A.A.C
This includes measuring total word count restrictive word counts and rule pages to establish historical trends in regulatory growth or reduction
Rule Inventory Management:
Maintain and update the comprehensive inventory of all new and eliminated A.A.C. rules
This work requires classifying the statutory authority of each rule as originating from Agency authority State statute or Federal mandate
There will be an opportunity to contribute to the refinement and enhancement of the current methodology
Economic Analysis:
Assist the Regulatory Economist with ad-hoc projects involving general economic analysis data collection statistical review and policy research as needs arise within the office
