Your Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Technical / Development Team Manager to lead a team of subject matter experts and drive transformation and upgrade initiatives. This strategic long-term role suits a bilingual technical leader who combines strong delivery expertise with people leadership vendor coordination and collaboration across IT and business teams while preparing for future senior leadership responsibilities.
Lead and manage a subject matter expert team providing direction coaching and motivation while collaborating with engineering teams vendors and internal stakeholders.
Drive technology transformation and upgrade initiatives with an immediate focus on system upgrades and a long-term roadmap for application rationalization (consolidating 50 applications to 1020).
Lead cloud migration projects to AWS ensuring scalable secure and cost-effective architectures.
Partner with business and user-facing teams to deliver stable customer-facing systems.
Act as a bridge between management and technical teams ensuring clear communication and effective execution.
Prepare to act as a successor to senior leadership with readiness to step into a senior manager role.
Ensure development standards code quality security compliance and performance optimization.
Successful delivery of application transformation consolidation and cloud migration initiatives.
Build and sustain a high-performing collaborative team culture with strong retention.
Drive innovation and problem-solving across internal teams and vendors.
Serve as a trusted deputy to senior management.
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field.
10 years of IT/development experience including 35 years in leadership or team management.
Proven experience delivering transformation and upgrade projects ideally within insurance financial services or large enterprise environments.
Strong expertise in AWS Cloud including serverless architectures and database migration/tuning (Oracle PostgreSQL).
Technical background in Java Spring Boot and Angular (hands-on experience not required but strong technical understanding is essential).
Experience with application rationalization (application merging and decommissioning).
Strong people management skills with experience leading Japanese engineering teams.
Bilingual proficiency: Japanese (N1/N2) and English (business fluent).
