Where in Wellcome will I be working
Research Fundingis responsible forthe operational management governance and support of allWellcomesgrant funding activities.
This role sits within theDirectedFunding& PlanningsectionwithinResearch Funding reporting to the Senior Manager of Directed Activities.
The DirectedFunding & Planningsectionprovides dedicated support toWellcomesStrategic Programmes in Infectious Diseases MentalHealthand Climate & Health as well as other teams across the business.The sectionisresponsible forthe coordinated central planning and implementation of Directed Funding at WellcomeworkingcollaborativelywiththeLegal and Finance teams to operationalisethe Programmes Directed Fundingobjectives.
TheDirectedFunding & Planningsectionmanagesand deliversthe end-to-end grant applicationreviewand award processes.Applications may beforstrategicone offDiscretionary Awards orthosesubmittedto themed funding calls.
What will I be doing
As a senior level FundingManageryou will provideeffectivebusiness partner supporttoWellcomesStrategic Programmesusing your key expertiseinDirected Funding process andknowledge ofWellcomesfunding policiestopro-activelyadvise the Programmeson the delivery and implementation of their strategic activitiesplayingan integral part at Wellcometoensurethat world-class research happens.
You willcontribute to the coordinated central planning of Directed Funding activities andproficientlyimplement theresulting Discretionary Award applications and Funding callroundsas well as any associated Advisory Committees.Using yourexcellentcommunicationand influencingskills you willworkcollaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure operational excellence and consistency of practice towards helping Wellcome achieve its strategic fundingobjectives.
As a Funding Manager (senior level) you will:
Provideproactivebusiness partner support toWellcomesStrategic Programme teams. You will work collaboratively across Wellcome particularly with Legal and Finance teams to help execute theobjectivesof the Strategic Programme teams by guiding advising and leading Directed Funding processes such as the implementation ofDiscretionaryAwards and funding calls.
Build excellent stakeholder relationsclearly communicatingwith and positivelyinfluencinga range of people across the organisation and at various levels of seniority.
Leadthe implementation of new schemes and funding calls or changes toestablishedschemes setting timelines and deciding workflow as. You will manage any committee meetings associated with the scheme or funding call coordinating all aspects of the meeting.
Ensuregood governance and provision of high-qualityadvicearound grant management.
Manageyour ownportfolio of Directed Funding grants throughout the life cycle including due diligence and expert review of applications provision of written feedback making awards and managing queries on awarded grants.
Deliver operational projects for Research Funding as needed including planning contributing to research and analysis delivery of outcomes or implementation of recommendations.

The ideal candidateshould have excellent knowledge ofgrantfunding processes andpolicies andbe educated to at least degree/equivalent level in a relevant science or public health subject.
Youwillhaveexcellentstakeholder managementand influencingskillswith an ability to adaptyourapproach tointernal and externalstakeholdersat all levels of seniority.Youwill use initiative andgoodjudgement to know when processes need to be flexibly adapted recognising when discussions need to be escalated andclearly communicatedto Research Funding leadership.
Youwilldemonstratestrong problem-solving skills with the ability toidentifyand explore key considerations to produce well-rationalised recommendations for a senior audience.Youwill have excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to summarise complex information and tailor it for specific audiences.

MinimumCriteria:
Educated to at least degree/equivalentlevelin a relevant scienceor public health subject.
Previousexperience as a Funding Manager orequivalentrole and experience of the academic research environment.
Evidence of robust stakeholder management skills ability to quickly build andpro-activelymaintainthe trust of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
Evidence of strongverbal and writtencommunicationand collaboration skillsacross a range of internal and external audiences.
Evidence of excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage large workloads and work to deadlines.
