Worldwide Grocery Store (WWGS) Robotics and Automation Systems team is seeking an exceptionally talented Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer (ISE) who excels at operating across multiple technical domains to join us in building the future of Amazons grocery fulfillment capabilities. You will engage with an experienced cross-functional team to develop verify and optimize automation systems designed to enhance Amazons ability to fulfill our customers diverse and ever-growing needs. As one of GRASs ISEs you will work in a team environment build effective working relationships inside and outside of our group and support a wide portfolio of new technologies as they move from concept to scaled solutions.
Key job responsibilities
- Support technical collaborations across mechanical electrical software and operational domains to develop and maintain detailed concepts of operations for grocery automation systems.
- Develop quantitative models and tools to analyze technical trade-spaces across functions and system boundaries balancing performance schedule cost and risk.
- Participate in establishing and maintaining performance availability and quality targets tied to business requirements and reporting capabilities of assigned systems.
- Support testing and verification of new systems and components including participating in vendor testing hardware verification system-level testing and collaboration with other Amazon teams.
- Collaborate with Product Managers-Technical Worldwide Design Engineering Advanced Grocery Logistics Operations Integration and vendors to ensure business requirements are fully understood and implemented.
- Identify and resolve emergent systematic failures that occur at interfaces between vendor and Amazon-owned components or between components owned by different domains.
- Propose changes at the subsystem and component level to improve system performance robustness and reliability based on operational learnings.
- Create technical documentation and analyses that support system design decisions and facilitate communication with partner teams.
- Apply systems engineering best practices and tools to support the development and optimization of grocery automation solutions.
A day in the life
The ISE develops and maintains concepts of operations and performance targets tied to business requirements leads testing and verification of new systems and collaborate with Product Managers-Technical Design Engineering and vendors to ensure requirements are met. This individual conducts cross-functional studies establish test strategies and leads resolution of emergent systematic failures at component interfaces. Having a dedicated ISE focused on system-level integration improves the quality and reliability of automation solutions that BADS ROM and operations teams depend on while reducing technical debt and ensuring solutions balance technical feasibility with business impact in Amazons fast-moving grocery environment.
About the team
Grocery Robotics and Automation Systems works with third party and Amazon technology providers to develop applications that deliver savings and cost avoidance by improving the speed quality density and labor efficiency of Grocery Fulfilment and Fresh Food Production activities at Amazon. We pursue building scale innovation process path level automation and incremental improvement to existing automation in a challenging environment with key constraints such as chill chain compliance and high volume order profiles that separate our applications from those intended for typical Amazon Fulfilment Centers.
- Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline
- Experience analyzing dependencies tradeoffs and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems
- Experience participating in or leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g. hardware engineering software engineering program management)
- 3 years of professional software and systems development experience
- 5 years of professional software and systems development experience
- Masters degree in engineering or equivalent STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) field
- Knowledge of at least one relevant technology domain area (e.g. compute hardware network software big data security etc.)
- Experience defining market and product requirements
- Experience in quantitative role (engineering process re-engineering quality assurance) or experience in building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision-making
- Experience reviewing appropriate quality plans test strategies and interacting with QA for testing activities

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
