Hope Community Services has supported Western Australians for more than 120 years delivering compassionate community-based services across alcohol and other drugs (AOD) mental health suicide prevention and social wellbeing.
The Goldfields Community Alcohol and Other Drug Service (GCADS) works in partnership with communities government and non-government organisations to reduce AOD-related harms and strengthen community-led prevention responses across the Goldfields region.

About the Role

We are seeking an AOD Prevention Officer to join the GCADS team in Kalgoorlie supporting prevention initiatives across Goldfields North. Reporting to the Senior Counsellor this role focuses on collaboration community engagement and the delivery of evidence-based alcohol and other drug prevention strategies.

In this role you will work closely with the Mental Health Commission (MHC) government and non-government agencies and local community groups to progress community action on AOD prevention and contribute to suicide prevention initiatives. You will lead and support the development implementation and evaluation of AOD Management Plans and Volatile Substance Use (VSU) responses ensuring services are culturally secure locally responsive and aligned with best practice frameworks.

Youll Need

Essential

  • Commitment to HOPEs vision mission and values
  • Strong commitment to working in culturally secure and competent ways
  • Relevant Qualifications or experience in Health Promotion Psychology Social Work Youth Work Mental Health Nursing Occupational Therapy Allied Health or Behavioural/Social Sciences
  • Experience working with community groups on education health promotion or AOD prevention initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop implement manage and evaluate AOD prevention strategies
  • Sound knowledge of the impacts of alcohol and other drugs on individuals families and communities
  • Excellent administrative computer and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage difficult situations confidently
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Current C or A Class Drivers Licence
  • Working With Children Check
  • National Police Certificate (within 3 months)
  • Department of Justice Clearance this can take up to 6 weeks

Desirable

  • Experience working with Aboriginal people and communities
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunity principles
  • Experience working within regional or remote settings
  • Knowledge of Volatile Substance Use (VSU) responses and protocols
