Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Health Information Clerk processes health information under the direction of the HIM Director or designated supervisor. This includes collecting and delivering health information/hard copy medical records processing the surgical list retrieving medical records picking up discharged patient records locating missing records prepping scanning and filing medical records preparing documents for storage answering telephones and assisting staff with health information requests.

Responsibilities:

- Safeguards patient confidentiality in accordance with regulations and policies.
- Ensures a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices.
- Logs out charts that are requested for tracking purposes.
- Answers the telephone and directs calls appropriately.
- Retrieves daily discharge patient records and old records following up on missing records.
- Processes discharged inpatient or outpatient records according to established procedures.
- Preps medical records and documents for scanning verifying document accuracy.
- Ensures scanning equipment is properly cleaned and maintained.
- Assists with ongoing projects as requested.
- Adheres to daily production standards.
- Understands hospital and department operations policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively with all ages of customers served.
- Enforces compliance requirements and policies.
- Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:

- Knowledge of medical records and medical record documents.
- Ability to process work using alphabetical and numerical filing systems.
- Well-organized with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills (30 wpm typing speed).
- Knowledge of Windows Software.
- High School graduate or GED.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Previous HIM Department or medical office experience.
- Valid drivers license motor vehicle motor vehicle insurance and current registration.
Special Considerations:

- Weekend work required on Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Scheduling:
- AM shift hours Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
