Job Summary

The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for Props Artisans and Carpenters. CATF a LORT D summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season in 3-4 venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC CATF makes its home in one of Americas coolest small towns Shepherdstown WV.


CATFs Props Department consists of a Prop Shop Manager an Assistant Props Manager two to three Props Artisans/Carpenters and two to three Props Interns who all work as a team to produce and maintain props for the festivals six productions. Prop Artisans and Carpenters work under the supervision of the Prop Shop Manager and Assistant Props Manager and assist in the guidance of Props Interns. The prop shop is large well outfitted and located in the same complex as the rehearsal halls and 2 of the 3 theaters.


Applicants should be able to lift and carry 50lbs and have should have well rounded knowledge of props related skills including carpentry sewing upholstering crafting painting digital image generation/manipulation etc. Positivity flexibility a desire to work with changing scripts and equal comfort with teamwork and self-directed projects are essential.


Position is seasonal from June 2 to August 5 (with a possible extension through early August which can be discussed during the interview). All staff and interns are provided free air-conditioned housing within walking distance of the theaters and workspaces (also air conditioned) 1-2 meals per day during tech and free use of university gym pool and laundry facilities.
