Job Description:

GM is developing the next generation of embedded platform software to deliver state-of-the-art features to our customers. To achieve that goal we are looking for technical managers who coach their teams to success and mentor their direct reports to achieve their potential.

The Autonomy Interface SWteamis responsible forthe software that configures devices like lidars cameras radars and IMUs and delivers sensor data to the AV stack running on GM vehicles.We are looking for a talented Engineering Manager to lead manage and grow our Camera platform SW engineering team in a fast-paced environment.The ideal candidate will combine deep technicalexpertisein embedded systems and camera technology with strong leadership skills to mentor engineers drive cross-functional collaboration and deliver high-qualityperformantsoftware solutions.

What youll do:

  • Direct oversight of engineers building highly performant software running on our Autonomous Vehicles and supporting infrastructure

  • Provide technical guidance and strategic direction in embedded software development for camera sensor & image processing pipelines and related subsystems.

  • Work with technical lead(s) to set the technical direction for the team andanticipatestrategic and scaling-related challenges

  • Work with EngineeringLeadershipand Technical Program Managers to create and execute on a roadmap for your team

  • Drive software engineering best practices

  • Conduct performance reviewsidentifytop performers and support their growth into Technical Leadership or Engineering Management roles

  • Foster a healthy collaborative culture and high-output team

  • Help define build and embody GM engineering culture and principles

  • Invest heavily in recruiting by working closely with recruiters screening candidates andidentifyingopportunities for external engagement to improve the GM engineering brand

What were looking for:

  • 4 years experience managing teams who have shipped and support scalable production systems

  • 5 years experience in software engineering roles

  • Self-motivated to lead your teams encourage best practices and constantly improve

  • Effective interpersonal leadership and communication skills

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent real world experience

Bonus Points:

  • Experience building or managing performance and safety critical systems or similar

  • Experience with DO-178 ISO-26262 or IEC-62304

  • Experience with modern C11 or later development

  • Experience working with ROS or other robotics frameworks

  • Deep understanding of SoC architectures and hardware communication protocols (I²C SPI PCIe USB).

  • Hands-on experience with camera/video subsystems including MIPI-CSI interfaces V4L2 frameworks and Image Signal Processors (ISP)

  • Familiarity with industry-specific frameworks (e.g. Android Camera HAL3 QCOM or Nvidia video frameworks).

  • Experience with computer vision or image processing algorithms and performance optimization.

Hybrid:This role is categorized ashybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to an office location three times per week at minimum.

Compensation:

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paidin accordance withapplicable state laws. The compensation may not berepresentative for positionslocatedoutside of the California Bay Area.

  • The salary range for this role is $185600.00 to $285000.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

  • Bonus Potential: An incentivepayprogram offers payouts based on company performance job level and individual performance.

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review you will be eligible toparticipatein a company vehicle evaluation program through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participantsare required topurchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week or other frequency dictated by their manager. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits. The position is subject to export control restrictions and requires the successful candidate to be either a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen U.S. permanent resident asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
