Job Summary

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Participate in all functions of Special Collections and Archives including access arrangement description and management of physical and electronic local history collections and university records.

Department Overview:

Albertsons Library is the vibrant nurturing hub of Boise State. This is a space where people and ideas flourish through research and creative activities. The Library provides high quality relevant services to students faculty staff and community members. Resources are available in person over the phone and/or online. This includes databases journals books interlibrary loan electronics a makerlab and Special Collections and Archives. We also offer rooms for studying a family study room for students with children and spaces for exhibits and events.

Special Collections and Archives (SCA) preserves and makes accessible over 400 manuscript collections the Universitys archives and records and a collection of rare books. SCA engages a variety of researchers and learners on campus throughout the community and beyond with our physical and digital collections.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:
  • Arrange and describe physical and electronic manuscript and university archives materials.
  • Manage and maintain archival systems including but not limited to ArchivesSpace and Archive-It
  • Create maintain evaluate and enhance metadata; manage authority control and subject description
  • Manage accessions including processing workflows and quality control
  • Prepare finding aids collection-level records and other discovery resources
  • Ensure appropriate physical housing and storage of collections and performs basic preservation work
  • Evaluate content in collections with special focus on identifying sensitive and restricted materials
  • Manage stacks and storage spaces to ensure effective and efficient space usage
  • Keep current with professional practices and standards; apply as appropriate
  • Provide reference assistance for in-person and to remote patrons
  • Supervise student assistants
  • Periodically supervise interns
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Ability to plan coordinate and maintain programs and services including digital projects and related systems processing collections and preservation of archival manuscript and other historical materials.
  • Knowledge of theories and methods of archival functions including arrangement description preservation reference outreach and electronic records.
  • Experience with providing reference and research services regarding archives and manuscripts collections.
  • Ability to develop working relationships within the library the University community and with a variety of external associates through effective use of written and verbal communication.
MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors Degree and 2 years relevant experience or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in library science history museum or related profession
  • At least three years experience in an archives setting
  • Experience with at least one archival system (e.g. ArchivesSpace Preservica or other)
