The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for Props Artisans and Carpenters. CATF a LORT D summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season in three venues in rotating rep. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC CATF makes its home in one of Americas coolest small towns Shepherdstown WV.
The Festival Charge Artist will oversee a department consisting of an Assistant Charge Artist two Scenic Artists and two Scenic Art Interns who finish paint and produce scenery for the festivals five productions. CATF uses USA 829 designers for a majority of the design elements and sometimes helps support rising designers.
Applicants ideally have previous repertory and/or professional experience working on multiple projects at once and be able to lead both peers and less experienced crew members. Applicants should be comfortable working in scenic treatments including but not limited to: realistic faux finishes carving 3D texturing ageing distressing and staining. CATF designs often feature realistic settings in close proximity to audiences so attention to detail is important.
Applicants must be able to lift and carry 50lbs be comfortable working on ladders and lifts up to 20 tall and enjoy working on teams. Flexibility positivity the ability to take direction well and work independently are essential to success at CATF.
Position is seasonal from May 22 to July 12 (with a potential extension through early August which can be discussed during the interview). All staff and interns are provided free air-conditioned housing within walking distance of the theaters and workspaces (also air conditioned) 1-2 meals per day during tech and free use of university gym pool and laundry facilities.
