Duties and Responsibilities:

*Maintain earthworm colonies including food collection feeding and processing of vermicompost as part of the Hui Koe Aina (HKA) Earthworm Hui (a partnership of University of Hawaii faculty staff students and community members to demonstrate train and promote food waste diversion through composting and vermicomposting and support local food systems).
*Lead undergraduate student training in vermicompost operations.
*Lead school tours and vermicompost demonstrations for k-12 students.
*Organize and lead outreach activities and community engagement.
*Coordinate vermicompost distribution and earthworm sales.
*Collaborate with HKA faculty and associated students on research and educational projects to enhance the scholarly and academic benefits of HKA.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in agronomy or natural resource management or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for composting operations and education training and outreach; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of food waste vermicomposting and green waste composting as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with food waste composting and maintenance of green waste compost piles.
Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of food waste composting and maintenance of green waste compost piles.
Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software.
Experience leading workshops training or related outreach activities on vermicomposting for households schools and other organizations.
Experience training supervising and reviewing the work of others including student workers.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience developing and implementing outreach and education programs.
Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals and/or engage in successful fundraising activities to support education and outreach programs.
Ability to develop and manage community-based networks around vermicompost operations.
Experience in business management for vermicompost and related compost operations including marketing sales managing supplies to maintain operations and related activities.
