The Sterile Processing Quality Control Technician ensures the highest standards of instrument cleanliness assembly accuracy and quality assurance within sterile processing operations. This role combines hands-on sterile processing responsibilities with detailed inspection documentation and quality control activities critical to patient safety and operational reliability. The position emphasizes quality assurance beyond standard SPD technician duties ensuring compliance with all regulatory manufacturer and internal standards while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and excellence.
Follow all ANSI/AAMI standards manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs) SOPs and internal work instructions.
Decontaminate used surgical instruments and equipment using appropriate PPE and established protocols.
Disassemble clean inspect and reassemble complex surgical instruments.
Assemble and package instrument trays and sets accurately according to guidelines.
Operate washers sterilizers autoclaves and other processing equipment safely and effectively.
Inspect instruments for cleanliness functionality and damage prior to packaging.
Document missing damaged or nonconforming instruments per SOPs.
Maintain accurate records for sterilization cycles instrument tracking and inventory.
Handle all instruments and customer-owned items with care to prevent damage.
Complete daily computer-based documentation and processing paperwork.
Monitor and maintain instrument and supply inventory levels.
Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of sterilization equipment.
Maintain clean organized workstations and decontamination areas.
Adhere to infection control safety and quality standards at all times.
Communicate effectively with team members operations staff and distribution teams.
Provide feedback and suggest workflow or process improvements.
Participate in ongoing training to maintain certifications and competencies.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Work is performed in a fast-paced climate-controlled indoor environment with controlled access. The role involves frequent exposure to biohazardous materials strong odors moderate noise levels prolonged standing and regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Minimum 2 years of hands-on sterile processing experience with demonstrated proficiency in decontamination assembly and sterilization.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
General knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile processing protocols.
Knowledge of sterilization methods including steam sterilization and infection control practices.
Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs.
Experience operating washer disinfectors autoclaves and related equipment.
Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to multitask prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions and SOPs.
Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic tracking systems.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Willingness to comply with required vaccinations and health screenings.
Professional reliable and collaborative approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
Previous experience in a quality control or quality assurance role.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
Certifications:
Sterile Processing certification required (e.g. CRCST CIS)
