About the Role
The Research Nurse will be responsible for managing research projects in the ICU. This involves maintaining accurate and timely documentation working as part of a multi-disciplinary team liaising where possible between the ICU other departments within St Vincents Hosptial and external parties.

  • Liaising with medical nursing and allied health staff within ICU and throughout the hospital sharing information that contributes to staff best meeting the requirements for any research project and therefore contributing to best practice and patient care.

  • Support the management of ICU Databases

  • Provide support with Research Projects

Classifications for this position will be YU13 ($102278.80 Per Annum Pro Rata)


Your Contribution

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA)

  • Post-graduate qualification in critical care/intensive care nursing

  • Minimum 4 years post graduate nursing experience in ICU

About the Intensive Care Unit
St Vincents Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is committed to delivering exceptional care to patients and their families with kindness and compassion. The ICU is funded to provide care for up to 15 ICU equivalent patients which may be a combination of patients requiring 1:1 and 1:2 nursing care.

POSITION PURPOSE
The Research Nurse will be responsible for managing research projects in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. This involves maintaining accurate and timely documentation in relation to research trials working as part of a multi-disciplinary team liaising where required between the Intensive Care other departments in St. Vincents Hospital Melbourne and external parties.
The Research Nurse will liaise with medical nursing and allied health staff and other departments with information that contributes to staff best meeting the requirements for any research project and therefore contributing to best practice and patient care.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assist and be supervised by the Department of Critical Care Medicine Director and Nurse Unit Manager.

  • Assist in the preparation of Human Research and Ethics Committee and Governance Unit submissions amendments and ongoing reporting in line with relevant regulatory guidelines.

  • Attain a thorough understanding of nominated clinical trial protocols including relevant procedures and documentation to ensure the safe accurate and timely conduct of research trials.

  • Assist in set up conduct and complete clinical trials in line with relevant guidelines trial protocol timelines and targets for recruitment.

  • Liaise with medical nursing and allied health professionals from within the Intensive Care Unit and St Vincents Hospital Melbourne in the conduct of studies as required (such as ethics committee pharmacy laboratories health information services other wards).

  • Assist in screening hospital patients for eligibility for clinical studies and maintain a screening log when required by the study protocol.

  • Assess patients clinical status to establish the continuing care plan appropriate action and suitability for participation / continuation in the clinical trial in conjunction with the treating doctor and/or investigator.

  • Assist in seeking informed consent from patients and/or their next of kin and maintain accurate and complete records of consent obtained by self and other colleagues in the Intensive Care Unit.

  • Coordinate all aspects of care of clinical trial participants and associated data collection in accordance with the defined clinical research protocol and relevant regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintain effective communication with trial participants and relatives Investigators and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure information is shared appropriately.

  • Assist in development of study specific documentation to ensure data is recorded accurately is able to be verified and is reported in a timely manner in accordance with the protocol regulatory requirements and project timelines.

  • Ensure data is secure and confidentiality maintained at all times.

  • Assist in accurate reporting of adverse events in a timely and effective manner to all relevant parties in accordance with HREC requirements good clinical research practice and protocol requirements.

  • Liaise with clinical trial monitors data managers research contract organisations and pharmaceutical sponsors (for data query resolution source document verification study product records).

  • Assist in maintaining an accurate record of study supply orders receipts inspection distribution usage and wastage as required.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic and paper systems for evidencing high degree of organisation and attention to detail.

  • Attend relevant educational and investigator meetings.

  • Organise research meetings and promote research staff development as required.

  • Ensure all aspects of research work is conducted in accordance regulatory requirements such as federal state and local Health Information and Privacy Laws the Australian Code of Responsible Conduct of Research (2007) and the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and International Guidelines for Food Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP).

  • Maintain up-to-date certification of Good Clinical Research Practice.

  • Report any hazards near misses and incidents (regardless of whether an injury occurred or not) into Riskman

  • Identify and report any variance to expected standard and minimising the risk of adverse outcomes.
