The Department
The Alfred Care Group Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which includes a number of clinical areas and units including Medical Oncology Haematology Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) State-wide Haemophilia Service Radiation Oncology Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service.
The Role
Every Alfred Care Group nurse must practice in accordance with the Bayside Health Nursing Professional Practice Framework. The Professional Practice Framework defines the elements of nursing practice that improve the care and experience of our patients and aligns with the Patients Come First Strategy. It is comprised of five domains that are crucial to maintain standards lead change and add value to healthcare. These domains are Comprehensive Care Workforce Leadership Professional Development Research and Informatics.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Nurse Practititioner Candidate (NPC) is a registered nurse who has acquired the expert knowledge base complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice. The NP/NPC is an integral member of the health care team who is working towards an increased level of professional autonomy in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage clients within their clinical context using nursing knowledge and skills. The NP/NPC is engaging in clinical education mentorship and professional activities to assist the development of extensions to practice including prescription of medications andat least one of the following: ordering diagnostic investigations direct referral to other health care professionals the ability to admit and discharge patients and/or provision of absence from work certificates within the limitations of their registration as a Registered Nurse. The Haemostasis Thrombosis Haematology Nurse Practitioner model will be a collaborative care model based within the Haemostasis Thrombosis Haematology service.
