About this Job



The position of Tourism Assistant Director supports the Tourism Director with administering and managing of the statewide Welcome Center Program.
The Assistant Director position directly manages the managers at each of the Welcome Center sites.
The Louisiana Office of Tourism operates a statewide network of Welcome Centers that receive over 1 million visitors annually and are
one of the most vital instruments in convincing travelers to visit more of the state by providing detailed and current information on
activities attractions restaurants and lodging as well as responding to a wide array of questions asked by visitors. Their primary
focus is on the day-to-day operations including maintenance training customer service and employee relations at the 8 Louisiana
Office of Tourism Welcome Centers.
The Tourism Assistant Director also advises the Tourism Director in planning for the Welcome
Center Program including Major Repairs Capital Outlay Requests and the overall Strategic Plan for the Welcome Center Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in tourism information public relations or teaching; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in tourism information public relations or teaching; OR

A bachelors degree plus one year of experience in tourism information public relations or teaching; OR

An advanced degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties
Manages Tourism Managers and line personnel and has broad oversight regarding activities within the Welcome Center Program.
Conducts monthly site visits of Welcome Centers to ensure efficient and effective operations including but not limited to areas of safety maintenance timekeeping cost-effectiveness visitor services property control and supply and inventory management.
Completes special projects as directed by Tourism Director Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary.
Manages activities for the Welcome Center program related to the annual State Travel Summit
Resolve employee issues complaints and disputes to the extent possible.
Creates a cohesive education program for Welcome Center program in the areas of site operations safety and hospitality.
Develops and maintains a site operation manual for use as a reference by Welcome Center Managers.
Communicates the policies procedures decisions and programs of DCRT and the Office of Tourism to all field staff.
Advises and coaches managers on good management techniques and best practices. Ensures that all state laws policies and procedures are followed by Welcome Center staff.
Organizes familiarization tours and educational seminars in conjunction with tourism boards destination marketing organizations and attractions throughout the state.
Advises Tourism Director on budget needs for major and minor repairs to buildings large and small acquisitions uniforms and wage employee pay requirements for all centers.
Monitors all budget expenditures for Welcome Centers and advises Tourism Managers concerning issues with current or projected spending.
Advises Tourism Director on a comprehensive annual maintenance and repair plan for Welcome Center Program that includes ongoing facility needs; technology improvements and other enhancements to Office of Tourism properties; internal communications and the preparation of a prioritized master maintenance schedule on a yearly basis.
Must demonstrate and utilize computer skills and knowledge of a wide range of general and proprietary software.
Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule; including weekends and holidays evenings and be accessible by email or phone during emergencies.
Responsible and accountable for use and maintenance of state property including state vehicles and laptop computer.
Performs other duties as assigned and delegated

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational

Work Schedule:Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Friday.

Compensation:The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Travel:This position requires frequent travel to statewide Welcome Centers and occasional out of state travel.
