The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) the largest public housing authority in North America was created in 1935 to provide decent affordable housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. NYCHA is home to 1 in 17 New Yorkers providing affordable housing to 528105 authorized residents through public housing and Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) programs as well as Section 8 housing. More than 11000 employees operate NYCHAs properties and central office functions.
NYCHAs Learning and Development (L&D) Department provides service coordination and delivery of training and professional development for NYCHA employees to do their jobs safely and effectively. Through operation of citywide training facilities and a robust library of online learning materials NYCHA L&D offers both technical training in building systems management and leadership development courses that are customized based on NYCHA standard operating procedures. L&Ds mission is to prepare NYCHA employees for the roles theyre in and the roles they aspire to attain while managing the wealth of knowledge that employees amass throughout their careers.
Reporting to the Administrator of the Maintenance Training Unit the Technical Trainer (Maintenance) is responsible for facilitating a variety of training courses designed to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of NYCHA employees primarily but not exclusively Maintenance Workers. This position focuses on training related to NYCHA standards and procedures specific to maintenance operations property management supervision and building operations. The ideal candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality professional development opportunities that ensure employees can perform their duties safely efficiently and in compliance with all relevant standards.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Instructor-led Training Sessions: Lead lectures demonstrations and hands-on exercises with adult learners both in the classroom and on-site at NYCHA developments on building maintenance procedures.
Technical Support: Provide end-user support and troubleshooting guidance for maintenance operations.
Training Content Creation: Collaborate in the design and development of instructional materials including writing and revising training manuals taking photos or video of hands-on training demonstrations translating technical content into plain language to enhance training effectiveness.
Training Comprehension and Needs Analysis: Perform assessments and evaluations to determine training comprehension and needs including conducting surveys focus groups and analyzing feedback to create tailored training programs.
Special Projects: Participate in special projects as required ensuring project goals are met and support is provided where needed.
Supervision: Supervise new Maintenance Workers and related staff while in training; Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Three years of permanent service in the title of Maintenance Worker A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of supervisory experience in the operation repair and maintenance of large-tenanted buildings. Higher education may be substituted for up to one year of this experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for each year of experience. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience in responsible charge of large-tenanted properties.
Preferred Skills
Extensive knowledge of NYCHA building systems and standard operating procedures.
Expertise with maintenance operations and heating-related equipment.
Highly motivated and willing to take initiative in developing training programs to meet NYCHAs needs. Ability to supervise and motivate others.
Proficient group management and public speaking skills with the ability to effectively engage and educate audiences.
Ability to assess maintenance operations and translate that into training for adult learners in a workplace setting.
Proficient writing and organizational skills.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite
Ability to develop training materials (PowerPoint presentations training manuals quick reference guides)
Ability to travel to developments citywide to perform site assessments and/or deliver field-based training.

Qualifications :
1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus five years of supervisory experience in the operation repair and maintenance of large tenanted buildings three years of which must have been in responsible charge of properties having not less than seven maintenance and operations employees. Higher education may be substituted for up to two years of this experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for each year of experience. However all candidates must have at least three years of experience in responsible charge of properties having not less than seven maintenance and operations employees.
